Hi Jade, Please tell us a little about you.
I was a little bush kid, growing up in Kuranda a little hippie town with my parents and my little brother.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Weird, wonderful & wild.
We’re sure you have been asked this a million times but how did you get into the industry?
Well, I wasn’t always a singer, my parents weren’t sure of what I was going to grow up to be but I went to an open mic night when I was 11 years old and I pointed at the singer on the stage and said to my parents ‘ I want to do that!’
How has this changed your life?
Music is such a beautiful thing, I think my family and I were already such a close-knit family but it bought us together and if anything I think music has helped me to be able to communicate better, it gives me energy, it brings me joy. Music opened up a world for me that I never knew existed and I just grabbed it with both hands.
Describe your sound in 3 words.
Emotive, melodic, explosive
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
My upbringing music-wise consisted of nothing country! My parents listened to artists like Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Alanis Morissette, etc etc, so when I said I wanted to sing Country Music, they didn’t have a clue what I was talking about but I was determined to do it.
I think music chose me, it sounds weird but I truly believe that I decided to give it a fair crack at being my own artist, etc. Music embraced me and the people embraced me and I always feel like I’m at home when I’m on stage, writing a song, or even just playing music in general in my lounge room.
Do you play any instruments?
Yep, I bash the guitar haha. I don’t think I play it well, but I give it ago.
Do you ever get nervous?
I mean I always have little butterflies but I don’t think I get nervous as such anymore. My guitar is my safety blanket, so when I take that off the nerves do creep in a little.
Tell us about your new single “OH MY HEART?”
Oh, My Heart is about the youthfulness of love & life!
Love is a beautiful thing and even if you don’t have someone in your life you need to remember to slow down and enjoy life. But if you do have someone in your life remember that love keeps you young, it’s easy to get bogged down, especially with work and life, I want people to enjoy life, enjoy love, enjoy whatever it is that brings you joy.
What’s the story behind the song?
You know what, this song has been coming for a long time, but I don’t think I understood that fully until now. I have always been so open with my love life, it was very much a ‘what love life’ kind of question as I was always unlucky in love until a met my forever human a few years ago. I sat down with a friend of mine Sinead Burgess earlier towards the beginning of this year and we were catching up, talking about life and how we had both randomly met someone at the same time a few years ago. After we had both been swept off our feet and I think it was about bloody time! So we wrote about it!
And about the success of your previous single “SUMMERTIME SUNSHINE AND YOU?”
I truly believe Summertime came out during a time when we were still coming out of the Covid realm, we were all still trying to find our feet and it was that song that could remind you that there’s life after covid! It felt like the perfect timing. I was lost and was just trying to be found.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Argh, there are so many rewarding things, but the main one is the people you meet whilst doing this career. I have some of the most beautiful humans in my audience and when someone says how my song has helped them through a tough time. That is truly a feeling you can’t describe. I’m incredibly blessed to call this my job.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
Haha, I don’t know! Maybe The Power of Broke, I heard it was a top seller.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
It’s okay to not be ok & not everyone will like you and that’s totally ok!
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
BE YOURSELF! I would love to go back in time and tell myself to be that weird kid who was always different from everyone else! I was always trying to be cool at school when at home I was just myself.
How would your best friend describe you?
She would say I’m a loose cannon, I would forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on & I have a huge love for all animals.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
The title would be ‘ Where are my keys’ or ‘Oh a dog, can I pet your dog please?’ Haha
I am forever losing things, my keys, my wallet, my phone (even though sometimes it’s been in my hand) and I absolutely LOVE PETTING DOGS!
What’s next for Jade Holland in the last months of 2022 and for 2023?
I am on the road from the end of this month for the next 6 months touring which is super exciting! I am getting married in the middle of next year and hopefully will be working on a secret new project for everyone to hear about!
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love cauliflower! Everything cauliflower! Whether it’s cauliflower steaks, cauliflower instead of chicken in buffalo wings, etc. Love it!
And your favorite cheat food?
Nutella or timtams! Hands down!
How would you explain your fashion style?
My fashion style at home I’d say looks like I am a handyman all year round, I am always doing a home reno in our house or building something BUT on stage, my style definitely changes to rock chick with cowboy boots!
What is your definition of happiness?
My definition has changed over the years. I used to think happiness was all about what you have as far as things (I was very young then) but now it’s about the people for me. I have a beautiful fiancé, my family lives close by and I get to see them every day, my friends are the most giving people and I am just in general blessed to be surrounded by all these people that I love. That’s happiness for me. And I have a gorgeous little dog who has half of my heart.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
If I could meet Princess Diana, I would want to hear her story from her. I think she was a beautiful kind soul who was taken way too young and I’d want to hear what she had to say.
What would be your dream holiday, and whom would you go with?
Well, I think my dream holiday is becoming a reality for our honeymoon next year haha! My partner and I are heading to Italy for 4 weeks to explore and eat our way through Italy!
Best advice ever given?
You can’t take anything with you to the grave so you might as well spend all your money, love whomever you want, live to the best of your ability, and DO IT ALL NOW!
Do you support any charity?
Yes, I support the Mental Awareness Foundation. They have provided lots of financial support and resources for people struggling with mental health and I absolutely adore what they are all about.
Where do you see yourself and your career 5 years from now?
I’d love to be regularly touring the US and Australia, have another 3 albums under my belt and maybe I’ll have 4 dogs by then!
Favorite song? Why?
This is hard, I don’t have a specific favorite song. When I’m in the car with someone I will say ‘oh this is my favorite song’ about 20 times while the radio is on!
What do you think of Social Media?
Social media is a hard one! I love that it helps me to share my music and I get to see and experience other people’s music and other things I’m interested in on social media but I do find I have to consciously work on the balance! Making sure I also have time for my home life and getting that balance right. It’s a wonderful tool to share a little bit of your world with others.
