Hi Jasmin, please tell us a little about you?
My full name is Jasmin Shojai. I am an internationally published model and upcoming actress.
I started my journey 4 years ago and have never looked back since it was an interesting journey for me, starting in a small city in Australia. I am a first generation Australian, with a Persian and German background. So I believe my ability to adapt and my international look, are both unique qualities.
When I started modelling, I had just come out of a domestic violence relationship that went on for several months. I wanted to try something new and do something for myself. I always wanted to be a model and actress since I was a child. And perhaps this was the perfect time to pursue it. In my second year of modelling I won the title of ‘Australia’s Top Glamour Model of 2017’. I have since been awarded a second year on my title.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Strong, confident and determined.
What’s your background?
Persian and German.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My boyfriend by far.
When did you start into modeling?
I started modelling when I was 21, so this was back in late 2015. That’s when I did my very first photoshoot. I loved it so much and have never looked back since.
What is fun and rewarding about modeling? And what is not?
The most fun part is being on set and posing. I just love performing for the camera and that’s what really made me “fall in love with modelling”. Then seeing the team work come to life in photos and better yet being published in magazines, is a very rewarding feeling. I would have to say, it’s often the “behind the scenes” work such as traveling, making sure your resume is always up to date, keeping fit and so on, that often is not as fun, and can be very stressful.
What advice would you give to women trying to become models?
Definitely have celebrities and professionals to look up to. If you want to be a professional model, it is important to have high standards. A lot of people think the “Instagram model” is a good standard when really it’s not. When starting out look at developing yourself before proceeding to an agency. Sometimes agencies will offer training for beginners as well. So investing into group or one on one lessons is a very good start. It will give you a good foundation to work from. Throughout out your entire career practice will always be important. Having good representation will also help you build your career and get jobs.
The most important thing when you are shooting is?
For me and my advice to any inspiring models. You definitely need to be confident and relaxed. If you look worried or stressed, it will definitely show in the photos. With time and practise, the ability to express different moods with facial expressions will always benefit too, and is just as important as body poses.
What magazines have you been in over the course of your career?
I have appeared in a lot of magazines internationally. So within Playboy, I have been published 7 times. Most rewarding, was when I posed for the Cover of Playboy Croatia last year. I was also awarded ‘Playmate of the Month’ for that issue. I have been featured Maxim, as well as Maxim Africa. I have done 2 FHM features. Apart from the Glamour industry, I have modelled for Beauty and Fashion magazines. Some brands include: Elegant Magazine, Picton Mag and Break Magazine Italy.
Which magazine or project is still on your bucket list?
I have so many goals. I specifically want to get more involved in the US industry. So I plan to work with US Playboy in the near future and Maxim. Although I have been published in Maxim USA before. On the side of modelling I am also active with acting and currently doing a Certificate 4 at Drama School. So I think moving forward from there, I plan to do more Film and Television work in the USA. As well as become a SAG union actor down the track.
Who are some of your favorite models and designers, and why?
My favourite models and designers include Gigi and Bella Hadid, Chanel, Gucci, Prada and Balmain. The Hadid sister’s are just absolutely beautiful but not only that, they are very professional. Their work and skills are always top notch, I would say they are great super models to look up to. I love so many different fashion brands so it’s always a challenge to decide on what I like most. These brands came to mind to me because they have a distinctive style and look that I really like.
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion or style is a creativity that’s purpose is to make a statement of some sort. Everyone has their own individual style and Fashion really helps show that. I love fashion because it doesn’t have one look or meaning. It’s expandable, it’s variable and it is one of those industries, and concepts that has a lot to offer.
What’s next for Jasmin Shojai in 2019?
I have so many projects coming up. Be sure to check out my social media for announcements and sneak peaks.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Being happy with yourself and the people around you first of all. Career and life decisions are apart of it too. But I always say that if you aren’t happy within and are “lost” then nothing else can really satisfy.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love salads and grilled chicken. More specifically Caesar Salad.
And your favorite cheat food?
McDonald’s by far.
