Check out our interview with Russian-born and now LA-based award-winning music artist, actress, and influencer Ksenia, who just released her new single, “It’s My Birthday.”
Produced by Mario Marchetti (Demi Lovato, JoJo, Super Junior) and co-written by Ksenia, this single was inspired by 50 Cent’s classic “In Da Club” infused with an empowering message. The explicit yet non-offensive nature of her lyrics aims to resonate with women facing ageism, delivering a powerful message of self-confidence and resistance against societal norms.

Hi Ksenia, please tell us a little about yourself.
Hi! I’m a rapper, a stand-up comedian, and a singer, and I came here all the way from Russia! You can catch me performing all around Los Angeles. I feel very fortunate to be able to live in LA and to have the opportunity to pursue my dreams.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
I’d say it’s a pretty good sound; it’s hard for me to describe; it’s unique.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Growing up, I listened to Britney Spears and the Spice Girls. But lately, I’d say my biggest influence is Lil Dicky, I’m a huge fan of his music and TV show. Before him, I wasn’t exposed to any examples of what it could be like if you merged music and comedy. When I heard Freaky Friday I laughed so hard. I never knew pop music could be funny. This really inspired me because I realized I didn’t have to choose between music and comedy, I could do both.
Tell us about your new single, “It’s My Birthday?”
Woohoo it’s my birthday! This song is a self-empowering birthday banger. In Hollywood, they give you such a hard time about turning 27. Jeez, we are all aging and it’s part of life. It doesn’t mean you have to stop pursuing your dreams. I mean, look at JLo. I want every woman to embrace her age and enjoy every phase of life.
What’s the story behind the song?
In Russia, there are two major holidays: birthdays and the new year. I’ve always wanted a birthday song of my own, so here it is!
How was working with talented producer Mario Marchetti?
Mario is a great collaborator; he knows me very well and we have the same sense of humor! Once we finalize a song idea, writing it only takes an hour or so.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
With stand-up comedy, it’s so fun to see people lighten up and laugh, it’s instant gratification! When I get the chance to see an audience connecting with my music and they start rapping along, it’s the best! I love spreading good vibes and fun.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
I’d say stop trying to prove yourself to everyone. You’re good enough, just love yourself, value yourself, and don’t be so naive! I always used to assume that all people were good and unfortunately, that’s not the case, especially here in LA. There are many predators who try to take advantage of vulnerable artists. Luckily, I don’t fall for that kind of thing anymore.
As a popular artist, you are followed by so many people, including young girls. How do you feel about the pressure of always doing the right thing and encouraging people to follow their dreams?
I think I have a pretty good moral code and I always try to be myself, which I think is the best any of us can do. I don’t feel that much pressure. I’m not out there hating on anyone or doing anything illegal. I’m a pretty peaceful and happy person.
What do you think is the secret to having a successful social media channel?
I think the secret is consistency and having a voice. You need to have something to say through music, jokes, or whatever medium you use to express yourself.
Which place that you have visited do you think changed you in a particular way, maybe for motivation or to see a different reality, etc.?
The US changed me forever; I am a completely different person from who I was in Russia. I’ve been here for 13 years now and I really wish I had been born here. I feel like God put me in this little Russian village as a lesson so I could learn how to get out. I am grateful for Google Maps.
Tell us your top 3 countries to travel to.
France
Spain
China
And which countries or cities are still on your bucket list?
UK, Greece, and Italy
If you were a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Great question. I think it would be called “Girl from the Forest.”
What’s next for Ksenia in 2024?
Omg so much! The first thing I am doing is assembling an incredible team. I’m actively working on manifesting the best team on earth! There is going to be more music, more content, more jokes, and tons more opportunities in 2024! I think 2024 is the year!
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Lil Dicky since he is my inspiration and I could tell him how cool he is!
Best advice ever given?
Win the crowd and you will win your freedom.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years?
I see myself touring the world!
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car or for karaoke?
Because of You, by Kelly Clarkson
What do you think of social media?
It’s the way people find out about you nowadays and there are positive and negative aspects to it, of course. It can feel like a lot of pressure to be consistent and create content all the time.
