Describe yourself in 3 words?
Silly, thoughtful, and creative
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I was first introduced to the music industry through my Dad. While I was growing up, he worked with different musicians from Jefferson Starship and other bands. He took me to songwriting conferences in the Bay Area. I’ve realized music has a domino effect-you meet one person and then that person introduces you to another. I somehow found myself writing in Los Angeles and then the rest was history!
How has this changed your life?
It’s changed everything! I dropped out of college and for a long time worked many different jobs to be able to make music. As of three years ago I’ve been doing music full time and some days it’s difficult but I’m so grateful for the flexibility and creativity it has given me to be able to do what I love.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Introspective, quirky, aetherial.
Do you play any instrument?
My first instrument was piano, but I begged my parents to let me quit and let me take guitar lessons when I was 9. So therefore, I’m much better at guitar now than piano haha.
What’s the story behind the song?
“Do Therapists?” is a song that came from an idea I had while taking a shower. I had just started going to therapy and was going to jump on a video chat with my therapist in an hour. I thought to myself-”does this person also need therapy?”. I dried myself off and ran to the piano and most of the song came to me there. The reason I had started going to therapy in the first place is because of a health diagnosis I got months prior and it really started to mess with my head. My diagnosis became all I could talk about for months because I was learning to cope. Because I’m a very empathetic person, I began to ask myself, is this too much for my therapist? And even if it’s not, she has plenty of other patients that tell her heavy stuff all day, does she have anyone to talk to?
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
When people comment or post about the song saying that it has helped them. This song specifically is something that helped me cope during a difficult time and it’s rewarding to know my pain was used to help someone.
How would your best friend describe you?
Probably funny, confident but sensitive, creative, observant.
What’s next for She Is Jules in 2023?
I’m really focused on making the She Is Jules (or the #julers) family bigger haha. My goal this year is to connect with more people with the music I’m planning to release. I’ve already posted lots of snippets on my tik tok haha.
How would you explain your fashion style?
Casual but quirky
What is your own definition of happiness?
Honestly I believe more in joy than happiness – I feel like happiness is temporary, but joy is unconditional!
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Taylor Swift haha, so I could tell her how much her songs and artistry has shaped me!
