Describe yourself in 3 words?
Psychic, Witch, Astrologer
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I began reading tarot when I was only ten, when I was exposed to the practice by a family friend. About two years later, I found my first book on Witchcraft, when I was at a used book store with one of my classmates. We both bought books on Wicca, and formed a small coven with our other friends. I began my professional journey in my late 20’s. I was on a very low budget cross country comedy tour, when one of my gigs fell through. I was all the way in Kentucky, and needed the money from that show for gas to get back to Arizona. I decided to drive down to New Orleans, where I set up a tarot booth in the French Quarter. I had a blast hanging out with the other street performers, and made more money then I would have at my comedy gig. I stayed for several days, having a blast, and by the time I made it back to Arizona, I decided to pursue reading tarot as a career. I moved to Los Angeles shortly after that, and began reading from a shop in Burbank called “The Crooked Path,” while I built up my online presence as well.
Now tell us about your THE GLITTER CAST podcast?
The main focus is to get spiritual information out there, to help other witchy inclined people on their journey. I interview leading professionals in my industry, to get their perspective on life, spiritually, and their craft. The main focus is on witchcraft, astrology, the paranormal, and psychic ability, but I also have had the pleasure of interviewing such celebrities as Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), Dita Von Teese, and Bridget Marquardt– it’s been an amazing experience.
Do you ever get nervous?
I don’t often get nervous, I think that the more you fear something, the more you empower it– so I always strive to put on a brave face and move forward fiercely.
When did you decide to create your own podcast?
I started my first podcast “Witch Doctorate,” when I was about 28 years old, and beginning to take my career as a spiritual adviser more seriously. I also had a pull toward the entertainment industry, having done stand up comedy for a few years, so it seemed like a natural fit for me. I wanted to provide information that was digestible and accessible to people, and the more my audience grew, the more my business did.
What is different from your podcast to other podcasts?
When I am trying to impart knowledge on psychic abilities or astrology, I always try to remember how I felt as a beginner to these concepts. I teach astrology classes twice a month as well, so I am always striving to make sure people are able to follow and learn from the context.
How often do you release new content?
I post daily horoscopes on my Instagram @TheGlitterCast and daily tarot pulls @RainbowGitterStar, I also have a monthly horoscope column for Shondaland.com that comes out at the beginning of each month. For my podcast, I mostly release every Tuesday, but I do take the occasional week off if I need to.
What do you think is the secret to having a successful podcast?
Connecting with other podcasters, so you can trade interviews and share your audience with one another.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
The fact that I can read people and make them feel seen and validated is always extremely rewarding. I always strive to make sure my clients leave a session with me feeling better off, and it makes all the work I do feel worthwhile. With my students, it’s incredibly satisfying to see them grow and flourish as astrologers. In terms of what’s not so rewarding– there’s a lot of responsibility that comes with the territory of giving people spiritual or life advice. People are vulnerable with me, and oftentimes aren’t in the best place, and a lot of the time I have to remind them that things get better in time, with patience and hard work. I wish that I could provide people with an instant fix, but it’s not that simple in life.
What’s next for Renee Watt in 2021?
There are several big projects in the works, but I’m not allowed to talk about them just yet. Stay tuned!
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I don’t have one book that I swear by. I think astrologers should have “The Astrology Bible” on hand. Tarot readers should take a look at “Modern Tarot” by Michelle Tea, and if you’re just looking to start up your career as a reader, I’ve gained a lot of valuable insight from “The Intuitive Career” by Cay Randall May– who is a wonderful practitioner and has given me a lot of great advice within my career and spiritual path.
Best advice ever given?
You can’t control what other people think, or how they feel about you. Make peace with the fact that negative people exist, and lean into love.
Name one your strengths?
I’m a hard worker.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
I usually like to decompress at home on Sunday! Give me a bubble bath, a face mask, a glass of wine, my puppy, and I’m set. I also love riding around in my Vespa, and my boyfriend and I usually take a little spin and head out to a cute brunch spot.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I’m not sure one exists, there’s always new knowledge to chase, goals to achieve, and people to meet. I think keeping a fluid and fulfilling life without the expectation that your work will ever be done is a good start.
Do you support any charities?
YES! Every month I make a donation to a charity and post it on my instagram stories, asking my followers to match my contribution. Those who do, get a free mini reading!
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love roasted veggies!
And your favorite cheat food?
Creme Brûlée (which I learned how to make during quarantine), and donuts!
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
I don’t do well with disrespect, at all. If I feel like someone is belittling my intelligence, I’m out.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
David Bowie, he’s basically my God.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
Doing similar work, only with a few books published and perhaps a couple of television appearances under my belt. I also love the idea of touring the country to do live psychic readings.
How would you describe your fashion style?
It’s pretty goth and spooky, but like, adult goth. I guess you could compare it to Stevie Nicks.
What do you think of Social Media?
It’s a blessing and a curse. It helps me reach people I wouldn’t normally have been able to in the past, but I don’t love the pressure of having to have a certain amount of followers. We’ve entered a bit of a situation culturally where followers equals success, and I think it can be a bit discouraging for people who are just beginning to put themselves out there professionally.
Where can we follow you?
My personal/business account is @RainbowGlitterStar and my podcast is @TheGlitterCast, which is where I post daily horoscopes as well.
