Check out our interview with Italian-born, London-based, Alice Pisano, a contemporary pop artist who made a bright entrance to the scene back in 2018. Since then, she has garnered a fantastic name for herself, offering listeners an ecstatic realm of lyrical bliss and contagious musicality.
Now, Alice Pisano is back with a new single “Boys Like You”, the first single from her upcoming EP Shattered But Still Cool. Written and produced alongside Jez Ashurst (Little Mix, Maisie Peters, Tom Grennan), Pisano has released a single that truly encapsulates her burning desire for true pop-perfection. Complimentary themes of infatuated heartbreak and dating duels pair effortlessly with symbolic synths, dreamy pop beats and rebellious rhythms to create an extraordinary track.
In Pisano’s words, “Boys Like You is about my experience with dating apps. I finally got around to joining one and decided to put myself out there. Online dating can definitely be fun but also frustrating, and can really shake your self-confidence. The day we wrote the song, I remember feeling pretty disheartened about it. It can be tough to deal with failed dates and behaviours like ghosting, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you’re not good enough, or pretty or fun enough… talking to my friends though, it became pretty clear they were having the same experience.”

Hi Alice, please tell us a little about you?
I’m a pop artist and singer-songwriter based in London, originally from Italy.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Emotional, determined, sociable.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I’ve had a passion for music since I was small but I decided I wanted to do it professionally when I was 18, during my last year of high school. I realised it was the only thing I could really see myself doing and I would have regretted it forever if I didn’t pursue it!
How has this changed your life?
Building a career in music as an artist is not easy, it requires a lot of persistence. But it’s so rewarding when things go well! And it’s very unlike having a normal job… I never really switch off from it!
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Pop, contemporary, electronic but with acoustic elements.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Music is in my blood, it’s been my obsession since I was little. Some of the artists that have influenced my songwriting and sound over the years are Gabrielle Aplin, Lana Del Rey, Coldplay, Nina Nesbitt…
Do you play any instrument?
I play piano and guitar.
Do you ever get nervous?
Always a little bit, before going on stage! I used to be so nervous that I could barely have a conversation… It’s got better through the years though, and now once I’m on stage and I start playing my anxiety almost vanishes.
Tell us about your new single “Boys Like You?”
It’s an upbeat pop tune, about dating apps, red flags and f-boys! I wrote it with Jez Ashurst (Little Mix, Maisie Peters, Tom Grennan) who also produced it.
What’s the story behind the song?
The day we wrote it, I remember being so fed up with dating… it can be fun but also so frustrating! Sometimes it feels like you put in a lot of effort for nothing. Especially when you have to deal with behaviours like ghosting… and it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking you’re not good enough, or pretty or fun enough. And all my friends were having the exact same experience! I really wanted to write a song about it, to hopefully make someone feel less alone.
And about your highly-anticipated upcoming EP Shattered But Still Cool?
The title sums up my current emotional state! Boys Like You is the first single from the EP, and all tracks on it are about my dating experiences in the last year or so, some good… mostly bad!
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
When people can relate and connect to your songs, that’s the best feeling ever!
What book should every entrepreneur read?
‘Awaken The Giant Within’ by Anthony Robbins.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Be patient…and never give up!
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Be bolder, more self-confident, believe in yourself more.
How would your best friend describe you?
Moody, emotional, determined…
What’s next for Alice Pisano in 2022?
I’ll be releasing the other songs from the EP!
What is your favorite healthy food?
A Caprese salad… tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, olives and basil.
And your favorite cheat food?
Definitely pizza!
How would you explain your fashion style?
I love colourful clothes… my favourite shoes are my Doctor Marten platform boots which I wear with pretty much any outfit! A short dress, flare trousers or mini skirt.
What is your own definition of happiness?
When I feel proud of myself… No matter what you achieve and what other people think of you, you can’t escape your own opinion of yourself!
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Jane Austen… she is my favourite author, her books have always been such a comfort to me!
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
Paris… I’ve never been, and I’d go with my best friend!
Best advice ever given?
A teacher once said to me: ‘Don’t just hope your dream will come true… make it happen!’
Do you support any charity?
I’m very proud to be taking part in a project by Crisis – the UK national charity for people experiencing homeless – who have made a compilation vinyl to help raise money for their cause.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Reaching more people with my music, and playing bigger stages!
Favorite song? Why?
This is a very hard one. There’s too many! Probably ‘Home’ by Gabrielle Aplin, and ‘A Case of you’ by Joni Mitchell. They are both just perfect lyrically and melodically, I never tire of them.
What do you think of Social Media?
They can be fun… if used with moderation, and bearing in mind almost everything on them has a rose tinted hue!
