Hi Drew, please tell us a little about you?
I’m a singer/songwriter originally from a small town in East Tx. I have 3 amazing kids that keep me on my toes at all times and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Hot mess express
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I started singing 3 part harmony as a kid with my grandmother and aunt in church. It’s when I started writing songs at 12 that I knew without a doubt that it was my passion and what I was going to do for the rest of my life.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Honest, soulful, easy-listening
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I have lots of influences throughout my life but some of the very first ones were Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, Dixie Chicks, Sheryl crow, Bonnie Rait
Do you play any instrument?
Acoustic guitar
Do you ever get nervous?
Absolutely. Especially if I’m playing a new song out for the first time
Tell us about your new EP “Wildflower?”
It’s a collection of songs that are very personal to me. I really was careful about what songs I chose to put on this EP because I wanted listeners to relate and really feel all the feels.
What’s the story behind the song?
“Wildflower” was inspired by 2 women in my life I’m very close to (my niece and best friend Barbara). They are both beautiful, strong women who overcame big struggles in their lives.
Did you had plans/concerts planned and cancelled because of COVID? If so have you done any online concerts or interaction with your fans?
I had some festivals I was planning to perform at as well as a tour booked in Germany for the month of September. Sadly, it was canceled but next year I plan to rebook it!
Which project is still on your bucket list?
I’d like to record and write a song with Chris Stapleton.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
I love the creative process and getting lost in it. That’s the best part in my opinion. I’m not so good with the business side of things which is why I depend on my team a lot!
What’s next for Drew Haley in the last months of 2020?
I’m continuing to write and prepare myself for getting back into the studio next year. I’m anxious to book my shows too. It’s good to sometimes take a break and reassess things.
What is you favorite song? And why?
Amazing Grace. My great grandmother always would ask me to sing it to her when I was a kid and she would close her eyes and lift her hands. She was the prayer warrior of our family and it’s just a very special song to me.
Any loves other than music?
I love to travel
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I’d love to meet Dolly Parton
Best advice ever given?
Don’t tell them, show them
