Country-pop artist and singer-songwriter Liddy Clark has spent years crafting her skills and her fanbase, ultimately leading to her debut album, Made Me, which she dropped last year. It was the culmination of many years of hard work and contains songs that have caught the eye of millions via her social media platforms and beyond. We got to chat with Liddy about her music, her inspiration, and the power of TikTok. Hi Liddy, for those that don’t know, could you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m a singer/songwriter based out of Los Angeles! I write and sing a mix of country, pop, indie, and singer/songwriter style music. I’m obsessed with lyrics that describe the most human experiences in simple yet effective ways, and that’s what I love to do with my music.
We’re sure you have been asked this a million times, but how did you get your start in the music industry? Was there a person or moment that encouraged you to pursue a music career?
I started singing when I was 7! I sang a song for my school’s talent show and ended up winning for my grade, I then got involved in musical theater and later learned that I loved writing my own songs.
How would you describe your sound in 3 words?
Honest, organic, and introspective.
If you weren’t a musical artist, what would you be up to right now?
I would probably want to do something else creative! I wanted to open up a restaurant when I was younger, so maybe I’d be doing that!
Tell us about your debut album, “Made Me”, and its Deluxe edition.
This album was a long time coming for me. It was the culmination of many years of hard work and it feels so wonderful to have these full projects together and out in the world. With the release of the Deluxe version and the Unplugged version I was able to add even more new music like my single “Second String” which gives just a taste of what’s to come. Releasing these albums has made me even more eager to keep creating and see what’s next.
Tell us about your song, “Playboy.” What’s the story behind the song?
I wrote this song after one too many experiences dealing with egotistical men in life haha. Guys tend to think that they can do and say whatever they want without consequences, and I wrote this song about some of the many consequences they face when ignoring their emotions.
How has your success on TikTok changed your life?
It’s been wild! I’ve been able to connect with fans all over the world and it’s been so exciting to create these new relationships with fans. My songs have also been heard by so many more people than I ever thought they would, it’s incredible!
How would you explain your fashion style?
I’m very much dressed for comfort most times lol! Comfort, casual chic I would say.
What would you say is the greatest lesson you have learned so far?
The only person you can control is yourself, you are in charge of your own happiness and your own future. Never leave that in the hands of someone else!
What advice would you give to your younger self, and why?
You’re going to hear “no’s” so many times, but it’s about having faith that a “yes” is right around the corner.
What’s next for Liddy Clark this year?
I’m focusing on finding the sound for my next project! I’m excited to write and play more shows in new cities 🙂
