Hi Laura, please tell us a little about you?
My name Is Laura Jacobs and I’ve been a professional Matchmaker and dating coach for almost a decade now! I love helping my clients find love, and am one of the only matchmakers to have a very successful love life myself! I practice what I preach!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Empathetic. Intuitive. Determined.
Who is your role model?
All the mothers who came before me. Becoming a mom has shown me just how amazing we all are as women and how we can overcome anything.
How did you get started into the business?
I have a psychology background and was always fascinated with interpersonal relationships between others. When I found out matchmaking was a real job, it’s all I wanted to do. I got very lucky and had a very well respected firm take a chance on hiring me when I had no experience and was just so eager to learn. Without working for multiple top matchmaking companies I would never be where I am today.
How has this changed your life?
I would say that I finally feel fulfilled in my life. It’s very important to me that my career is not just something I do for money, but something that deeply gratifies me and gives me a bigger purpose and mission. What better karma can you create for yourself besides changing someone’s life and finding them their soulmate? There is no better feeling in the world.
Let’s talk about Roku Originals “Match Me in Miami?” And how did you got involved in this project?
This project has been in the making for awhile, and I was the original first cast member! The team originally contacted me about a totally different show that I wasn’t right for. They asked me if I had any other ideas of the types of shows I would like to appear on because they really liked me, and we got the dialogue started from there. A year later they had rounded out the rest of the cast and we had made a great sizzle reel. Right after the reel was made they called me with the news that Roku had picked up the series!
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far in this business?
Surround yourself with amazing mentors, this business is way harder than it looks and only the cream of the crop will survive, and that making sure your romantic life is in a really amazing place before you go out there and help others.
What do you think is the secret to have a successful show like yours?
Is our show successful yet? I’m anxiously awaiting the viewer numbers like everyone else and then I’ll let you know!
Can you share something funny that’s happened to you while filming?
A bug flew into a cast members mouth while they were speaking
Do you or the people that appears on the show had a script on what to do or say?
We had general storylines of what we were going to talk about but no, no scripts.
Any advice to other people thinking on share their lives on TV?
Expect the unexpected and make sure you are a really strong person at your core before doing this. You are not going to get along with every cast member.
How has your life changed after the very popular TV Show?
It really hasn’t changed at all yet, still waiting!!
What mindsets helped making you so successful?
Knowing that I am making a difference in the world and helping others definitely keeps me going.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
“Finding the “one”, a memoir.” I tell my clients all the time that finding the man for me was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. In today’s dating scene, finding an alpha man who is commitment oriented and wants children is literally like finding a needle in a haystack! It’s sad, but it’s true. You really have to do a ton of internal work to attract this type of man as well, and I would love to write a book teaching women this in 2023.
What do you think is the secret to have a successful IG account?
Treat your followers like gold. I answer as many DM’s as I can and try to make sure that I have a loyal fan base who loves my content. Help your audience and followers and they will stay loyal to you.
As a popular face and influencer you are followed by so many people. How do you feel about that pressure of doing always the right thing, and encourage people to follow their dreams?
I’m not that popular yet compared to many out there, so I don’t feel any pressure in that way. I think what my fan base does love about me is that I keep it real, especially when it comes to dating advice.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Keep your circle small.
Any advice to entrepreneurs out there?
Not always having a steady paycheck in the beginning is worth the freedom you will feel in the end.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I read books about dating LOL, so everyone should read “Attached”
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Changing the lives of others.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Stop letting guys waste your time! I was in long term relationships in my 20’s that were truly leading nowhere. I didn’t understand that some men will just waste your time and not feel any type of way about it. It is up to you as the woman to be smarter with your time because it is our most valuable asset.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love salads and smoothies.
And your favorite cheat food?
A cheeseburger
How would you explain your fashion style?
It has definitely changed since I became a mom. I had to throw out some edgier clothes I used to be able to pull off pre mommyhood… But I still try to have a cutting edge classic and elegant style. I love dressing up, I love a statement dress, I love fashion in general.
How would your best friend describe you?
Caring, funny, reliable, and loyal.
What’s next for Laura Jacobs in 2023?
Honestly It’s a new life phase for me of doing less and not more. I’ve learned to say “no” to a lot of things that would have been a dream for me in my 20’s, but don’t fit into my new life as a mom and partner now. My twins just turned 1 year old, and I want to be there for them. I don’t want to miss their special moments because I am working too much, or because I am not present.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Happiness comes from within, but my current definition of happiness and what makes me the happiest is playing with my twin boys with my partner and laughing together.
What is a normal day in your life?
I greet the twins, answer some emails, take some calls, match some matchmaking clients, kiss my partner, let him make me dinner (he loves to cook and never lets me) and put the kids to bed.
What is your idea of a perfect Sunday?
Hanging out with my family by the ocean or pool
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Marilyn Monroe to ask her all about her tragic love life. Imagine being such a beautiful icon but never being successful in love? I would want to know everything!
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
My man and I would love to go to Italy or the South of France soon but with twins it’s. bit tricky so that vacation may have to wait a couple years !
Best advice ever given?
Sit back and let Karma handle the rest.
Do you support any charity?
I support the HER Foundation which is the global voice of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) and needs everyone’s support! When I was pregnant, I suffered from this truly life altering condition that society largely doesn’t understand. HG is severe morning sickness to the point that I was throwing up 25 times a day or more, and lost over 15lbs. I was worried every day I would lose my babies, or not make it myself. I was hospitalized and wondered if I would ever get better. Kate Middleton and Amy Schumer suffered from the same condition, and there is still no cure for this and very, very little research being done on a wide scale. We need to do better at supporting our mothers and babies.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
My long term goal is to be a very well known matchmaker. Some people barely know what a matchmaker does! I want to be the face of the profession.
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
I was actually a professional singer and Opera singer growing up, so I love karaoke. Cher’s “Do You Believe” always has me majorly impressing a crowd!
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it has pros and cons. It has changed the world and connected us in so many ways, but also disconnected us. Comparison is the thief of joy and I see a lot of people constantly exaggerating how great their life is on social media, or comparing themselves to others which I think is damaging to do.
