Tell us about Lilit Markosyan.
My whole life art has been an inspiration in most things that I do. As a little girl, I expressed myself in the form of classical music, sketching, painting and writing. As I grew older I found myself shifting more and more towards fashion. I attended FIDM and was one of ten students who were chosen to design a collection for Debut Fashion Show and Gala. This was the turning point in my career. My passion only grew stronger from then on. I started to focus more on creating designs that enhance women’s femininity and beauty so they feel more powerful yet delicate in my designs. A major way I achieve this is Italian couture techniques that I use in my collections. Lilit Markosyan Designs have been shown in numerous fashion shows and the positive feedback, the excited eyes of my clients and industry professionals inspires me to do what I love to do, which is creating new collections. I want my dresses to transform housewives into models and celebrities.
What inspired you to become a fashion designer?
I believe that the passion and desire for certain art forms comes early in life. I started out putting together little doll dresses from scrap fabrics, the reaction from my mother and friends urged me and drove me to do bigger and better things and here I am today.
Where do you want fashion to take you?
I want fashion to take me to a place to where I can make a real dent in the world of fashion by making it more chic and sophisticated.
What is the inspiration behind the current collection?
Every women wants to feel sexy and powerful, so this new collection I’m working on is going to be focused on accentuating women’s bodies, and it’s inspired by glamour.
What are your passions?
I’m really passionate about art history, architecture, music. I love analyzing paintings. I love hiking, mountaineering, collecting geographical minerals.
Favorite place to travel to? Why?
I think that Paris, the “City of Art” is definitely my favorite place to travel. I think the City of Lights, as it has been called, itself is a great place to get inspiration from.
If you meet Anna Wintour, what would you say to her?
It would definitely be an honor for me to meet Anna Wintour. I’d like to know what are the challenges she faces as a woman in power?
If you can make a dress for an icon, who would it be and what look will you create?
I consider Angelina Jolie a true icon for many designers including me. I respect her talent and compassion and her impact in society. In the movies she’s in she portrays very strong characters, which is a trait she carries to the red-carpet. I think she has a soft heart and a strong personality and If I was to design a dress for her I would like to show a balance between strength and softness.
What is your long term goal for the brand?
I want this brand to build a stronger connection with different types of customers. One of my goals is to have boutiques worldwide so the dresses are available to women everywhere. I definitely want to make my mark in the world of fashion.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself building stronger connections with some great people, I see the brand growing day by day, I get to know my customers better, and I certainly see more and more talented actresses wearing Lilit Markosyan designs on red-carpet.
