Hi Kendra, please tell us a little about you?
Thanks so much for inviting me to interview. A little about me… I am from Houston, TX… I am a folk rock singer-songwriter based in LA. Playing guitar is one of my favorite parts of music, and poetry is my favorite type of writing. I love taking nature walks, hula hooping, writing, and painting. My 2021 playlist has rap, 70’s funk, and 2000’s pop on it.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Philosophical, Inspired, Original.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
Wow, most of my life has been dedicated to getting to where I am and further. I started acting at a ridiculously young age like 4 or 5 through musical theatre. I have always wanted to be on the stage. I am maybe a bit of a ham, who loves the spotlight. On top of that I seemingly have a lot to say. So, I started in the theatre then film > poetry then rock music and songwriting.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Thoughtful, heartfelt, psychedelic.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
A would say the main artists to encouraged me to write music are: Led Zeppelin, Britney Spears, & the Grateful Dead. I am also a big fan of classic music and hip hop. Singer wise, I am inspired by Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, and spoken word artistry.
Do you play any instrument?
I love playing instruments. I can play guitar, piano, ukulele, and plan on learning drums and programming electronic music more and more…
Do you ever get nervous?
In general, kinda yes. I tend to have anxiety in my normal life, but on stage, I am at home. This is one of my fav quotes “Nerves are your body’s way of telling you you’re ready…”
Tell us about your new single “A Tall Order?”
“A Tall Order” was a super fun song to write and work on. It was featured on my most recent full-length album titled ‘of Thank You’. I wrote it in March 2020, so it is kinda a pandemic project.
What’s the story behind this song?
This song is about rising above one’s circumstances to be the best version of yourself. It’s also about loving yourself along the way. It is what it is, and if I have a sunny attitude, I get through most things with ease.
Did you have plans/concerts planned and cancelled because of COVID? If so have you done any online concerts or interaction with your fans?
I had about 15 in-person shows cancelled. Some in San Fran, LA, Arizona, and so on. I have played a lot of live-stream shows in the meantime. It’s pretty cool; I have found a lot of wonderful fans through the interweb.
Which project is still on your bucket list?
Writing my first memoir/novel!!! Wahhhhh… I have written about 60 pages. It’s happening, soon enough.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
Most fun thing: writing new songs & thinking, “WOW! This is exactly how I feel!” Most challenging thing: Being constructively critical on myself
What’s next for Kendra Muecke in 2021?
Lots of new music! One new full-length album, a single, and a 4 track EP. I also just released a collection of chill melodic dubstep remixes. Check it out here
