Check out our exclusive interview with talented Grammy-nominated DJ and Producer EDX.
With almost three decades of experience under his belt pushing the boundaries of electronic music culture, long-standing Swiss-Italian artist EDX has the credentials, to match the very best in the business. Following a brief hiatus in his personal production output over the past six months to focus on other areas of his music businesses, the chart-topping hit-maker – and Switzerland’s most streamed artist ever – now returns to the fray, as he unveils his incredible new single, Ecletric.
Ecletric is another stunning slice of warm, blissful melodic house music from EDX, who marks his inaugural release of 2021 and his first original single since the critically acclaimed release of Indian Summer back in September. Road tested during his recent mini-tour of North America to universal approval, the record will finally see the light of day at the end of April, in time for the impending summer season.

Hi Maurizio, please tell us a little about you?
Hey guys, what’s up. Great to be here. My name is Maurizio Colella (EDX) and I’m a Grammy-nominated DJ, producer label head from Switzerland.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Make people smile J
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
The short answer is with a lot of passion and hard work! I have always had a huge passion for electronic music and it’s a dream to be working in this industry after almost thirty years.
Do you ever get nervous?
Yes I always get a little nervous, especially before big shows. But nerves are a good thing. They keep me focussed.
Tell us about your new single “Ecletric?”
It’s been a while since I’ve released some brand new EDX music, so I’m super excited to get this one out there. The last record I put out was ‘Indian Summer’, which was the lead single for my EDX No Xcuses 500 stream back in September, and a couple of other vocal records earlier in 2020. Slowly but surely, we are seeing the nightlife scene in some parts of the world start to open again, so I thought now would be a great time to release a new club record, made for the dancefloor. I wanted to explore some of the more progressive influences and signature sounds of my earlier career and bring them up to date and relevant to fans in 2021. I’m super happy with how Ecletric has turned out and I can’t wait for you guys to check it out.
Which artists and styles inspired and influenced you?
There are so many, but if I had to choose two I would say Carl Cox and Laurent Garnier. Two of the all-time greats!
In your eyes, how is different the music scene from Europe to the US?
Well at the moment, parts of the US are open for nightlife, which is great. The vaccine rollout seems to have been a huge success so hopefully we can get to a similar stage in Europe soon.
When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
I’m a pretty relaxed guy and I feel pretty chilled even when I’m ‘working’. When I’m not touring or in the studio, or the office, I love to spend time with my family. Especially over this past year it’s been a real blessing.
Best stage you have ever play?
It’s so hard to pick the best stage – I’ m used to playing over 200 shows a year all around the world but if I had to pick one of my favourite festivals it would have to be Electric Zoo in NYC.
Did you had plans/gigs planned and cancelled because of COVID?
Yes, absolutely. Like every DJ, I have had to cancel a number of tours over the course of the past 12 months. International touring is just one small part of what I do, however, so I was able to stay very busy with other parts of the business – from livestreams to music production, management and running my label (Sirup Music) I’ve tried to keep positive during these difficult times.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
I love the diversity of my job. Running a label and management agency, alongside being a touring artist is incredibly rewarding and something I’m very grateful to be able to do.
What’s your advice for the newer DJ’s?
Keep it original, and follow your passion. And make sure to get enough sleep!
What’s next for EDX in 2021?
There is a lot of new music coming up that I can’t wait to share with you guys. The next record is a vocal record on Spinnin’ Records with Australian vocalist and singer songwriter Jess Ball, who you guys will remember from our debut collab ‘I Found You’. I’m also really excited to release some more club records, which I will put out as and when the clubs start opening again this year.
Best advice ever given?
Always work harder than everybody else around you.
Name one your strengths?
I know my strengths, and I know my weaknesses.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
Lots of friends, family and a table full of food.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Peace.
What is your favorite healthy food?
My mum’s vegetables.
And your favorite cheat food?
Napolitan Pizza.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Madonna. When I was a kid I was a huge fan, so would love the chance to hang out with her.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
To be sincere, I wouldn’t change a thing. If I’m still doing what I’m doing and sharing music with the world, I’ll be happy!
How would you describe your fashion style?
Casual with a twist 😉
What do you think of Social Media?
To be honest I’m not a big fan of social media and it’s not something I grew up with, however I appreciate that it’s now a necessary tool for artists looking to get their music heard. I I could choose, I would prefer to have meaningful conversations with family, friends and the people around me.
