Check out our interview with talented Italian-born singer/songwriter Alessandra Boldrini who recently released her new single “What You Wanted.”
The new single “What You Wanted” is a wash of refreshing honesty, recounting the feeling of despair and disdain surrounding toxic relationships. Detailing the hurt of holding yourself accountable for the fault of others, and the fallout and frustration thatβs triggered by gaslighting, Boldrini admits, βI was in a relationship a few years back, and towards the end, I found myself giving and giving and giving and for what? Nothing, as the other person couldn’t even bother to try and make things better.β
Inspired by the likes of Dua Lipa, Nono, Mabel, and Clean Bandit, Boldrini’s EDM-meets-Pop sound pivots around her enchanting yet confident vocal palette that oozes with charisma. Showcasing a vocal maturity way beyond her years, Boldrini’s lyricism explores the human mind, often subconsciously writing songs from the perspective of others. Hailing from the small Italian village of Fabriano, Boldrini’s lofty musical ambitions left her feeling like a big fish in a small pond. She spent time singing in her local choir during childhood, and while her musically inclined family ignited her passion, Boldrini decided to move to London and study at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute in pursuit of her musical dreams.

Hi Alessandra, please tell us a little about you?
Hey Naluda, thanks for having me! I was born in Fabriano, Italy, and I have been based in London, UK, since 2016. I came to London to study vocals, and meanwhile, I started working full-time in a coffee shop that I now manage. After my graduation in 2020, I started releasing my own music, and I’m happy to be able to pursue my dream!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
I’d say.. crazy (in a nice way ahah), friendly and caring.
We’re sure you have been asked this a million times, but how did you get in the industry?
A customer at my day job, who also happened to be a brilliant musician, asked me to collaborate with him, and we wrote a song together. He gave me many tips, and he has been a massive help to me. Through the years we still help each other and are very good friends! π Thank you Alex!!
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Upbeat, refreshing, catchy!
Who influenced you, and why did you choose to make music?
My parents introduced me to music at a very young age, and since then, I just fell in love with it! I realized that was what I wanted to pursue in life when I started performing live, which is what I love the most about making music.
Do you play any instrument?
I can play a bit of piano and guitar, but only the basics. π
Do you ever get nervous?
Uh, nervous could be my second name ahah! I often get nervous as I always try to show people who I truly am. As an artist, it’s important to be true to ourselves and authentic; however, sometimes it’s hard being so vulnerable as I’m scared of what people might think.
Tell us about your new single “What You Wanted”?
“What You Wanted” is my latest release and third song produced by Rich Pilkington, a phenomenal producer who helped me bring my sound to life! It was written on a cold winter day, I was in bed, and the lyrics just came to me while hearing Rich’s idea!
Recorded at Soho Sonic Studios in London and mastered in Australia at Panorama from Nicolas Di Lorenzo, What You Wanted is a catchy and upbeat tune that talks about the end of a romantic relationship.
What’s the story behind the song?
I wrote this song about being blamed for everything in a relationship, even when we have done nothing wrong! I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt this way at least once, and I’m happy I was able to talk about this experience I had through new my song!
Now tell us about the feeling to have over half a million streams on Spotify? That’s amazing! Congrats π
Thank you! π I’m always so happy to see that people are saving and listening to my song, and it’s truly the best feeling knowing that, after all the hard work, the result is appreciated! I love when people connect with what I write.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is seeing people enjoying my songs. Sometimes people send me screenshots of my song playing or videos where a friend of theirs is dancing to a song of mine… those are the best moments for me as I feel like they are really into the music.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you have learned so far?
One of the most important lessons I could ever learn is that nothing comes without sacrifices and hard work. Another one, not less important, is that time is precious and shouldn’t be wasted!
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
It would probably be to stop overthinking and not miss opportunities! When I was younger, I used to be very shy and never lived the moment because I was always so scared of people’s judgment.
How would your best friend describe you?
Alerug (my best friend) would probably say I’m funny, honest and a bit crazy. We spent so much time together when I was still living in Fabriano; she is the best and always supports me in everything I do.
What’s next for Alessandra Boldrini in 2022?
Well, a few more releases are lined up for 2022, and I’m also looking to start rehearsing with my band within the next couple of months, so stay tuned for some live gigs announcements!!
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love all vegetables!! When I was in elementary school in Italy, my mum would give me all these cut raw vegetables as a snack: carrots, cucumber, fennel.. since then, I’ve been a big fan of greens and veggies! π
And your favorite cheat food?
To be honest, anything hahaha, but in particular, I love fizzy sweets, and I can’t say no to cheeseburgers!
How would you explain your fashion style?
I wouldn’t define my style as fashionable or trendy; I like to wear comfortable clothes most of the time, but I love to dress up for important events & concerts!
What is your own definition of happiness?
I would say waking up and looking forward to the day ahead (especially if it’s a workday)!
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Definitely my grandma, as I was very young when she passed away. I still think of her very often, and I would love for her to see me now; just spend some time together and get to know each other more.
Best advice ever given?
“Work harder than the person next to you”.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself working towards my goals and my music career. Definitely still writing songs and hopefully a bit more experienced & known within the music industry.
Favourite song? Why?
At the moment, I’m listening to Light Switch by Charlie Puth! It’s so catchy and perfect for my dance workout!!
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media is a double-edged sword. It’s good for reaching new people and discovering new things; however, if not used properly, it can change the way we see things and keep us “away” from the real world where imperfections are on a daily basis (and it’s perfectly fine). I try not to let it define or limit me
