Describe yourself in 3 words?
Free, understanding, authentic.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
My dad is a Hispanic singer-songwriter, so I grew up in a version of this industry.
How has this changed your life?
It’s definitely allowed me to grow into a person with strong intuition and a strong mind, being around it from a young age, it also allowed me to never say never to my own dreams of creating positive change in the world and to believe that anything is possible.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Hypnotic, grounded, new age.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Nature is my number one influence; I learn the most from her and I always feel like the earth is writing through me rather than my own mind creating my songs. Some artists I really love are Aurora, Lady Gaga, Willow, Mose, Peia, and Polo & Pan.
Do you play any instrument?
I play piano and a little guitar.
Do you ever get nervous?
Every time I perform, I get nervous, but I think it’s just part of the human experience. I’d be more concerned if I didn’t feel anything in moments like those.
Tell us about your new single “Around the World?”
Around the World is a song I wrote to listen to what the younger generations have to say, listen to their hopes for the world and take action to make those a possibility. It’s also about taking care of our planet because we’re doing so much to her and so many companies are lost in their own greed, leaving these generations behind to pick up their mess if they even can by then.
What’s the story behind the song?
I wrote this song after I heard Greta Thunberg’s speech to the UN, I think it was, to many world leaders telling them about how they’ve let our generation down, breaking every environmental promise, taking these kids future away and I couldn’t help but make something about that so that people could listen to the voices of the young.
Now tell us about heading on the road with pop-rock band Camila?
It was definitely an experience that allowed me to grow more than I thought I could. I really tested my comfort zone and expanded it more and more every show. I truly wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for that experience because it was really the moment that made me confirm that this is what I want in my life because I gained self-belief being there and starting my creative process. During these years is when I wrote these songs.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is definitely seeing my impact on the younger generations especially and knowing that I’m creating something that might not immediately make waves but that will at least plant a seed for more beautiful things to come out of it.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I’d say it depends on what they’re going for! Read whatever is going to boost your knowledge on whatever it is you wish to create or do, entrepreneurship is such an expansive thing to be, so there really is no one size fits all.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
That in order to become a source of light, a bringer of pure love, you must walk through your own darkness and just take out one stone at a time so you can then fill up your vessel with loving things and light.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
To find all the most beautiful things about herself and to not worry about what anyone else thinks.
How would your best friend describe you?
I have absolutely no idea.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Gaia Guardian because of how connected I feel to the earth and its inhabitants.
What’s next for Alisun in 2022?
New music! New experiments, hopefully the opportunity to perform (:
What is your favorite healthy food?
Fruit, and probably celery with nut butter and bananas.
And your favorite cheat food?
Ethiopian sambusas for sure!
How would you explain your fashion style?
Eclectic, non-fixed.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I think my definition of happiness is being happy for no reason, having no outside factor making you happy is true happiness to me.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would meet some women from ancient matriarchal cultures and ask them to influence other countries, teach them peace and brotherhood so we wouldn’t be in this mess right now.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
The Bahamas with my family.
Best advice ever given?
To not worry about your doingness and to focus more on your sole beingness.
Do you support any charity?
I donate monthly to The Orangutan Project, 8 Billion Trees and WWF.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Hopefully releasing most of the music I’ve written up to this point in my life, on tour with my pets and if possible, with someone in my family, creating beautiful waves of healing throughout society.
Favorite song? Why?
Becoming one of “The People” from avatar because I feel connected in an almost alien way to the Navi people as if I am truly the same as them.
What do you think of Social Media?
It’s something I have to force myself to be on, knowing all they do to keep people addicted to the apps is saddening to me while at the same time if we learn to use it properly, we can find some pretty interesting things and it can also be great.
