Altman is the daughter of the legendary Lynda Carter (WONDER WOMAN) and is following in her mother’s musical footsteps. Jessica’s dynamic storytelling speaks to the rawest part of the human experience; after losing her father to a rare blood cancer, she wrote “Cherry Blossoms” which was dedicated to him and provided her comfort during her darkest days.

Tell us a little about you?
I grew up just outside Washington D.C. and went to the University of Michigan for college and law school. Throughout law school and during my time at my law firm, I continued to perform and record music. While I enjoyed the intellectual challenges of law, particularly my work with DCVLP, I always felt a gravitational pull towards my real passion, music. I ultimately decided to leave my firm after the release of my first EP No Rules and pursue music fulltime.
Describe your sound in 3 words?

Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I have always loved making music. I think it is one of the most effective (and fun) ways to communicate.
Tell us about your new single “Pieces?” and the story behind the song?
When I’m writing I usually start with the title or the hook- usually creating a hook around phrases that people often say. For Pieces I really liked the idea of “pick up the pieces.”
And rather than making it serious or sad, I wanted the idea to be fun and exciting. Picking up the pieces of your life and moving forward is incredible. There are so many amazing and wonderful things waiting for you on the other side.
Now tell us about the huge success of your previous single “Cherry Blossoms” and the story behind it?
I wrote Cherry Blossoms after my dad passed away. I grew up just outside Washington D.C. where spring is often marked by the blooming of the Cherry Blossoms. I have such amazing memories sitting with my dad outside just looking at and enjoying that time of year.
Cherry Blossoms is about reminiscing to that simpler time of life.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I really love everything about my job. The most rewarding part is probably when I hear a story of how a song made someone feel. It is an incredible feeling to be able to write something that is so personal and have it resonate with someone else and their experience.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Believe in yourself and keep working hard. Things will work out.
You have an ear for music and an eye for fashion; how would you explain your fashion style?
Classic with a little edge.
If you could perform with someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
John Mayer. I went to his concert last year and he is just insanely talented.
Best advice ever given?
Not really advice but one of my favorites quotes by Horace Greeley – “Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident … only one thing endures and that’s character.”
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Cardiac Arrest by the Bad Suns.
What do you think of Social Media and how it has changed the music industry.
I think social media is an amazing platform for artists. Not only does it allow artists to find and expand their audience, but it also gives artists more control over distribution and access to publish their work online.
Do you have any upcoming shows?
I will be performing at the Drom in New York City on July 26.
