Hi Audrey, please tell us a little about you?
I’m just a 17 year old girl trying to make her way through life! I’m a big art lover, so I try to immerse myself in a lot of art related hobbies.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Optimistic, loud, and compassionate.
How did you get started into acting?
I got scouted at a Target! I started acting mainly for fun, but it developed into a really big passion of mine.
How has this changed your life?
This has changed the direction of my whole life. I think I learned a lot of things in this industry that I wouldn’t have, if I didn’t go into this type of work. Now, I feel like I have a lot more options to choose from and I love it!
What is the best and worst part of being an actress?
There are a lot of different things you need to keep track of as an actor. Like most occupations, there are pros and cons of the job. Personally, I love getting to know people, since the entertainment industry really brings in a lot of different types of people. However, I’m not the best at being organized, so keeping track of everything I have to do is hectic at times. I have a journal for that, so I try my best to stay organized!
How do you prepare for a role?
I read the script and try to get a sense of what the character’s personality is like. Usually I like to memorize a script, so I can focus less on learning the words, and more on how the words portray that personality.
Tell us about the new NETFLIX film “Mixtape?”
Mixtape is about a young 12 year old orphan named Beverly, played by Gemma Allen, who finds a mixtape one day. The mixtape is from her deceased parents, and she decides to find all the songs on the mixtape. She makes a few friends along the way, one of them being my character, Ellen, and another being Nicky, played by Olga Petsa! It’s a fun, heart-warming movie about music, friends, and family!
And about your role as Ellen?
Ellen is a bright and funny character! She has a great sense of fashion and just wants to have a good time. She’s pretty awesome!
What other projects you have been part of?
I’ve been in a few commercials here and there, but I think the biggest project I’ve been in was Here Today with Billy Crystal and Tiffany Haddish! It was quite the experience, and I loved every second of it!
What kind of roles do you like or would like to play and why?
I like playing roles that are humorous! I like to make people happy, so it’s always rewarding making people laugh.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I’d say meeting new people! It’s really fun to hear other people’s experiences and just getting to know them in general.
What’s your advice for the newer actresses?
Don’t lose yourself in your work! I know it can be really exciting to dive in head first and become really committed, but you won’t be able to put forward your best work if you start becoming someone you’re not!
Which project is still on your bucket list?
I did a horror short film called Stay Awake, but I still want to do another horror movie! I also wanna play a villain of some sorts and be in an action-y movie too!
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far in this business?
I think a really important part of acting is, when you’re auditioning for a character, don’t try to force the personality. A lot of characters leave room for the actor’s interpretation, so do what feels best for you! Have fun with it!
How would your best friend describe you?
My best friend told me that I am “Pretty, respectable, but [I] make questionable decisions at times!” I would agree with that hehe.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Just Trying to Have a Good Time! That would be my title because I’m honestly making up everything as I go, but I’m trying to enjoy every second of it!
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I’m not much of a book person, but I really liked Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier! It’s a beautiful book that I surprisingly enjoyed!
What’s next for Audrey Hsieh in the last months of 2021 and for 2022?
College applications! Just doing my best to get into college, haha. ;D
What is your favorite healthy food?
There’s this kelp snack that’s apparently packed with Vitamin K. I don’t know what Vitamin K does, but I think it’s healthy.
And your favorite cheat food?
My favorite cheat food is spicy instant noodles. It’s delicious…
What is your own definition of happiness?
I think it’s living in the moment and feeling satisfied. Be surrounded by people you love, and do what you love.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Hirohiko Araki!! He’s awesome and I love JJBA so much!! His character designs are also really flippin cool!!
Best advice ever given?
Look forward not back, because no matter how much you look back at the past, you can’t change what has happened. You can, however, determine what will happen.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I think I’ll be continuing acting, but also pursuing a degree to become a psychiatrist!
Favorite song? Why?
Sugar song to bitter step! It’s the ending song to one of my favorite anime, and it makes me so happy every time I listen to it!
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it’s a good way to connect with people, and you can find a lot of funny stuff there! However, staying on social media for too long can also be pretty unhealthy.
