Hi Mary, please tell us a little about you?
Where do I start. 🙂
I’m a gut specialist with a passion for helping individuals optimize their digestive health. With a significant following on social media, I strive to provide valuable insights and guidance to a wide audience. As a world traveler and food lover, I embrace diverse cultures and cuisines, seeking inspiration and expanding my knowledge. I am driven by the desire to make a positive impact in people’s lives and continuously explore new avenues to contribute to the field of gut health and overall well-being.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Passionate, Determined, Indomitable
Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why?
I would have to say my dad. He has impacted my life by showing me the importance of a strong work ethic and dedication and never settling for mediocrity. He has a relentless pursuit for excellence which has inspired me to always set ambitious goals. He was the most solid pillar of strength and taught me the value of resilience and perseverance, reminding that setbacks are merely opportunities for growth.
How and when did you start into the health and nutrition field?
I personally embarked on my journey into the health and nutrition field in my early 20s when I started taking my own health more seriously having gone through an eating disorder. Recognizing the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle, I delved into various aspects of nutrition, exercise, and overall well-being to educate myself and make positive changes in my own life.
As my passion for health and nutrition grew, I pursued formal education and training in the field of integrative health with a focus on the gut microbiome. I enrolled in relevant courses, earned certifications, and continued to stay updated on the latest research and advancements in the industry. Alongside my educational pursuits, I gained practical experience by working with individuals launching my own wellness business 5 years ago, conducting workshops, and collaborating with fitness facilities to provide nutrition guidance and support.
Through dedication, ongoing learning, and hands-on experience, I have been able to develop a deep understanding of gut health. This journey has not only transformed my own life but has also allowed me to positively impact the lives of others by sharing my knowledge and expertise.
What is fun and rewarding about being a nutritionist and gut specialist? And what is not?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a gut specialist is the opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives. You have the privilege of helping individuals achieve their health goals, improve their well-being, and enhance their quality of life. Seeing your clients experience positive changes and witnessing their gratitude for your guidance can be incredibly rewarding. The field of nutrition and gut health is dynamic and constantly evolving. As a specialist, you have the opportunity to engage in lifelong learning. The best part is witnessing the transformation of my clients’ health and well-being is undoubtedly one of the most rewarding aspects. Whether it’s helping someone overcome digestive issues, manage chronic conditions, or achieve their weight loss goals, seeing them thrive and regain control over their health is incredibly satisfying.
Emotional Investment often involves not only addressing physical health but also supporting clients emotionally. Clients may struggle with body image issues, emotional eating, or other psychological factors that impact their relationship with food. Providing the necessary emotional support can be demanding and emotionally draining at times.
What did you learn from your biggest failure?
My biggest failure taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. It highlighted the significance of bouncing back from setbacks, maintaining a positive mindset, and staying determined to overcome challenges. I realized that failure is not the end but an opportunity to reassess, learn from mistakes, and continue moving forward. Failure also prompted me to engage in deep self-reflection. I took responsibility for my actions and decisions, acknowledging the role I played in the outcome. This introspection allowed me to identify areas for improvement, recognize patterns or behaviors that contributed to the failure, and take necessary steps to avoid similar mistakes in the future. I learned the importance of being accountable for my choices and actions for sure.
Can you share some tips for healthy meal planning and preparation?
Certainly! It is vital to prioritize Whole Foods. Base your meals around whole, unprocessed foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. These foods are rich in essential nutrients and fiber, which are beneficial for gut health. Include a Variety of Fiber. Aim to incorporate a diverse range of fiber-rich foods in your meals. This includes fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. Different types of fiber nourish a variety of beneficial gut bacteria and promote digestive health. Lastly, opt for Probiotic-Rich Foods as they provide beneficial bacteria that support gut health. Include fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha in your meal plan. These foods provide live cultures that can help maintain a healthy gut microbiome. When it comes to planning focus on moderate portions and mindful eating: Pay attention to portion sizes and practice mindful eating. Slow down, savor your meals, and listen to your body’s hunger and fullness cues. This approach can promote better digestion and prevent overeating.
Do you recommend doing the meal preps once a week? Or 2 times a week?
I believe the frequency of meal prepping can vary depending on individual preferences, lifestyle, and specific health goals and rather than the focus being about the number of days, it is more important to put emphasis on the use of fresh, seasonal ingredients for optimal health and balance. If you prioritize using fresh produce, you may prefer doing meal preps more frequently, such as twice a week, to ensure the ingredients remain fresh and retain their nutritional value. Ultimately, the frequency of meal prepping should be determined based on your individual needs, preferences, and practical considerations. Experiment with different approaches and find a routine that works best for you. Listening to your body’s signals and adapting as needed is key to maintaining a healthy and balanced approach to nutrition.
What’s your advice for our readers to start taking care of what they eat daily?
Eastern medicine recognizes the importance of aligning our diet with the seasons, so consuming seasonal, locally grown foods can provide the body with the necessary nutrients and energetics to support overall health and well-being. Pay attention to the foods that naturally grow during each season and incorporate them into your meals.

Im an early riser, I start my day with mindful activities to set a positive tone for the day. This may include meditation, journaling, or light exercise to promote mental clarity and overall well-being. As I usually fast in the morning, my first meal of the day would be after 1 pm. Running a successful health business involves various administrative tasks. I allocate time for managing appointments, updating patient records, responding to inquiries, and collaborating with my team. I may also work on marketing strategies, creating educational content, or exploring partnerships to expand the reach of my services and promote gut health awareness. Taking care of my own health and well-being is vital to be an effective gut specialist. Throughout the day, I make sure to prioritize self-care activities such as regular breaks, mindful eating, staying hydrated, and incorporating movement into my routine. This helps me maintain balance, reduce stress, and sustain my energy levels. I dedicate time to attend networking events, or engage in online forums to foster meaningful collaborations and share insights. Towards the end of the day, I review client notes, follow-up on any pending tasks or emails, brainstorm content ideas for my social media and prepare for the next day.
