Check out our interview with pop singer-songwriter Liz Lieber who’s new single inspired by her childhood love of the classic Wizard of Oz, “No Place Like This” is out now.
The song emphasizes the importance of finding happiness and meaning in the simplicity of everyday life. The track was produced by Liz herself, and expertly mixed by Grammy-winning mixing engineer, Craig Alvin (Golden Hour—Kacey Musgraves).
Alongside the release of the single, Liz has also launched the official animated music video for the song. The video takes viewers on a journey reminiscent of the Wizard of Oz, with various elements throughout that create an ambiance similar to a storybook.

Hi Liz, please tell us a little about you?
I’m a singer/songwriter, live streamer, and musical content creator currently based in NYC.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Curious, witty, and open-minded.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
Kind of by accident. I’ve always loved to sing and make musical content, but I had no idea it would take me to where I am now. I started livestreaming during the pandemic, and my following just kept expanding from there.
How has this changed your life?
I’m now doing the thing I used to do for fun…as my life’s work. It can be scary. But it’s also a dream.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Nostalgic. Honest. Warm.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
My influences really run the gamut, but some of my top influences are Sara Bareilles, Billy Joel, and Carole King. And I chose to make music because I express myself better through music than anything else.
Do you play any instrument?
I play piano and picked up guitar pretty recently.
Do you ever get nervous?
Yes. But it helps me to think of nervousness as just excitement.
Tell us about your new single “No Place Like This?”
“No Place Like This” is a heartfelt love song I crafted in the Fall of 2022, drawing inspiration from the timeless classic “The Wizard of Oz.” I just released it on April 28th, and you can listen to it anywhere you find your music (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.). You can also watch the music video on YouTube here!
What’s the story behind the song?
I wanted to write a love song that captures the essence of a relationship that feels like home, rather than overly grand or fantastical. There are so many fairytale love songs, and I wanted something that felt a little different.
How was working with Grammy-winning mixing engineer, Craig Alvin?
Well, I’ve always said that some of my favorite mixing work is on Kacey Musgraves’ Golden Hour, and I realized…hey, why not reach out to one of her mixing engineers? Long story short…it was one of the smoothest processes I’ve had with a mixing engineer. He did an amazing job.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Getting to see people forget their troubles, even if just for a moment.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
The Tipping Point. It’s this really interesting book written by Malcolm Gladwell. The book talks about when something suddenly takes off and spreads like crazy, causing some major changes. Gladwell digs into different examples and stories to show how these tipping points happen in our society, and it’s pretty fascinating stuff.
If you weren’t in music, what would you be up to right now?
I’d probably be out as one of those poets who writes poems for people on their typewriters out in the park or on the street somewhere. That, or I’d own a chocolate shop.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
I’ve learned that being true to myself is more powerful than pretty much anything.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
I would tell young Liz that the things that make her feel “weird” and different are actually the greatest gifts.
How would your best friend describe you?
Funny, passionate, and understanding.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
I think I’d call it “Dancing with Magic”, because I love finding my creative flow and seeing what magic comes from it.
What’s next for Liz Lieber in 2023?
Releasing more original music and full-length covers. I’m planning some live shows as well.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Mangos.
And your favorite cheat food?
Mochi ice cream.
How would you explain your fashion style?
A cross of casual comfort and retro.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Appreciating the small moments and having meaningful relationships.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Sara Bareilles, because she’s an amazing singer/songwriter who has been fearless in trying everything, whether it be acting, or writing music for a Broadway show.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
I’d go to Mykonos in Greece probably with friends or a significant other.
Best advice ever given?
That rejection is redirection.
Do you support any charity?
Autism Speaks and Wildlife Conservation Society are some examples.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Releasing albums, as well as singing covers and originals on tour to audiences around the globe.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
“Killing Me Softly” – the Fugees version
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it can be a place of connection and growth, but it’s also something that really needs to be balanced with life outside of it. It can be really taxing on your mental health if you don’t take breaks from it sometimes.
