Check out our interview with rising country singer and songwriter Bree Jaxson who recently release her latest single, “Two Way Street.” The song’s solid instrumental blended with Jaxson’s strong vocals and smart lyrics really showcase her talent, and make it a must-add to any country playlist.
“Two Way Street” was added to Apple Music Best New Country Songs, and was added to several other highly esteemed independent playlists, such as the Academy of Country Music’s New Music Friday playlist, CMT’s Roundup playlist, and Whiskey Riff’s New Music Friday playlist.
While music is her passion and a lifelong dream, Bree Jaxson has spent the last ten years serving in the United States Air Force. Bree is currently deployed as she is active in the Air Force and National Guard. She was recently promoted to Captain and is leading a team of 167 service members while simultaneously working on her music career. The Afghanistan combat war veteran now holds the rank of Deputy Commander and Captain for Cyberspace Operations in the U.S. Air National Guard.
Her experiences throughout life have taught her that music can help you get through anything and that is what she is hoping her fans will get out of her newest music releases. In December 2020, Bree signed a distribution deal with Heart Songs Records. She has released two singles from her upcoming EP, “Make Me Hate You” and “Country Heart City Roots” which were featured on the American Country Music Awards (ACM) Spotify playlist.

Hi Bree, please tell us a little about you?
I am a Baltimore native. I am a mother of two, I have been in the United States Airforce for almost thirteen years. I started out building bombs, rockets and missiles for the A-10 and now I am a deputy commander for Cyber Space Operations. I have been performing music my entire life and went to Highschool for performing arts.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Driven
Ambitious
Spontaneous
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I have always had a passion for music. I started doing musicals when I was younger and then went to Highschool for performing arts. Once I graduated I joined the military and unfortunately my dreams on the back burner and after my last deployment and having kids I decided that it was my passion and in 2018, I met a producer in Nashville and created my first single.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Authentic
Country with a twist of edge
Soulful
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Martina McBride was my first musical inspiration. I loved her music when I was younger and then I listened to Christina Aguilera and really connected with her lyrics. Music healed me so many times in my life and it was something that brough me happiness when nothing else did. I wanted to make music for myself, but also wanted to share my experiences musically in hopes that it could help someone else heal like it helped me.
Do you play any instrument?
Sadly, I have fallen off on my instrumental capabilities. I play the piano a little now and guitar, but defiantly working on getting back to playing efficiently
Do you ever get nervous?
ALL THE TIME! I think it would be weird at my stage of an artist to not get nervous.
Tell us about your latest single “Two Way Street?”
This song is really about being able to let go of a relationship that isn’t benefiting you anymore. Have you ever felt like someone’s “doormat” essentially? And one day you wake up and realize that relationships have to be given effort from both sides to work and if that isn’t happening anymore its time to let it go.
Tell us about the success of your previous single “Make Me Hate You?”
The success of this song shocked me honestly. This was a new sound for me. More soulful, more heartfelt, and more deep so I was nervous to put it out there. But People really enjoyed it and it really helped me through a dark time.
Which project is still on your bucket list?
I am hopefully releasing my first full album this year!!! That will be so exciting for me!
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
I love meeting new people and having new experiences. I also love being able to travel and see the world. Unfortunately my family cannot always come with me and so that causes some stress and hardship sometimes just being away so much.
Now tell us about your experience as Deputy Commander Cyberspace for US Air National Guard (USANG)? Thats great, thank you for your service!!
I have gotten to see so many great places and meet the most amazing people. I started out enlisted for the first nine years in MDANG building bombs, rockets and missiles for the A-10 Warthog. I deployed to Afghanistan and all over the country and then moved to Texas in 2015 and commissioned to be the newest Deputy Commander for Cyber. Since then I have deployed for Hurricane Relief and nationally helping assist with comm./cyber.
For the last ten months I have deployed to the Mexican Border to help assist in the Immigration Crisis.
What’s next for Bree Jaxson in 2022?
I plan to release a couple more singles and then my full album. I am hoping to end this deployment and be able to start booking some shows.
What is you favorite song? And why?
Favorite song of mine: One of my next singles to be released is called “Tough Girl” and I surprised my daughter and had her sing in it with me and it was magical.
Favorite song of another artist currently: Sitting pretty on top of the world – Lauren Alaina. I just feel like there have been so many times that we put a smile on and makeup to cover up the hurt and no one knows by looking at you.
Any loves other than music?
I love to travel and experience new cultures. I also love fitness and working out
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Martina McBride – Because she really influenced my initial love of music

Stop seeking approval from other people and make your life what you want it to be.
How’s a typical day in your life?
Typical day is waking up and working out. Then having to work and at night I usually take the time to write some song ideas out or start marketing. Doesn’t seem that interesting now typing it out haha

What do you think of Social Media?
I honestly hate it, but I get the benefits of it. But it also blasts an unrealistic standard of beauty and happiness that is unachievable. It is not authentic to who people are and I think it sets a bad standard for out children. But on the plus, it allows artists like myself more of an opportunity to showcase your music.
