Hi Cally, please tell us a little about you?
I’m a Welsh singer-songwriter, animal lover and coffee drinker.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Confident, comical and small!
Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why?
Performance wise it has to be Freddie Mercury! His energy on stage was completely inspiring.
How did you get started in the business?
When I graduated from college, I started working as a session singer recording guide vocals for other singers to learn songs from. I loved the studio environment and realized instantly it was something I naturally excelled in.
Did you go to music school?
I went to a Performing Arts College in London called Italia Conti.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Melodic, sincere, playful.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
As ridiculous as this may sound, I didn’t choose music, music chose me. It was a completely natural path for me to take and never a decision. I’ve just always loved singing and even as a child I would try and compose pop songs on the piano.
Do you ever get nervous?
All the time. Although I’m confident in myself, I’m naturally an anxious person. I don’t think I’ll ever stop getting nervous but I’ve accepted that.
What is your next goal as a musician?
To write a song that stands the test of time.
Do you have a tour coming up or where we can see you performing?
I’ve just finished supporting Shellyann on tour who won a BBC competition here in the UK called All Together Now. It was awesome. I’m crossing my fingers there’ll be a great one coming up soon too so stay tuned!

Now tell us about your new single “Summer of My Life?”
‘Summer of My Life’ is a playful and fun song which captures my love for summer in a short story based on a past romance. I felt it was important to write a song that captures my love for summer as I’m a pretty seasonal person and summer brings out the best in me.
How was working with Si Hulbert on writing this single?
Really great. He has a natural talent for music and an ear for production.
What we can expect from Cally Rhodes in 2019?
I’m looking to release something a little more stripped back and am so excited to do this!
What was the feeling to be named “Best Artist of the Year 2018”?
BBC Introducing in Shropshire have supported me from the get go. It was a great feeling and I wasn’t expecting it so it made the feeling all the more special.
What is your favourite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams! It’s a classic.
Name one of your strengths?
My ability to bounce back after experiencing negativity.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Being content with the life I lead.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
I genuinely enjoy my own company, so a good coffee, a bit of Netflix followed by a beautiful country walk as I love the outdoors.
Do you support any charities?
The Dogs Trust Society. I love animals and have donated a pound a week for at least TEN years!
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it’s a great way to engage with people who listen to your music and I’m so lucky I can do that in real time! Having said that, I think it’s important to mention we shouldn’t take social media too seriously as it’s easy to compare your life with other people and I don’t think that’s always healthy.
Where can we follow you?
Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Spotify, YouTube! I’m everywhere these days.
