Check out our interview with Northern San Diego rock/punk group Doll Riot who recently released their latest single “Those Days” and will be playing at the always popular Punk Rock Bowling festival in Las Vegas on May 26th.
In the last year alone, Doll Riot has played close to 50 shows, sharing the stage with legendary groups like Agent Orange, and forging scene building relationships stretching from San Diego to Los Angeles counties with groups like Poison Hearts, Spray Alien, Death Valley Girls, Luby Sparks and many others. The band’s sound conjures the legendary “riot girl” genre that defined the 90’s underground, and will remind many seasoned listeners of favorites including L7, Hole, Bratmobile, Lunachicks and Bikini Kill.

Describe your sound in 3 words?
We have a fun but also heavy punk sound
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Ella: I have always loved music and guitar. My uncle who also plays guitar in a band influenced me to play because the shows looked really fun.
Do you play any instrument?
Ella plays guitar
Elena is lead vocals, but plays guitar
London plays piano, bass, guitar and some drums
Lillee plays drums
Do you ever get nervous?
Not anymore because we play so many shows
Tell us about your new single “Those Days”?” What’s the story behind the song?
The lyrics are about those mornings where you wake up and already know that your day is cursed from the start.
The guitar part was originally inspired by surf punk and after playing it so much we changed it towards more of our style
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Probably playing shows and seeing everyone who likes our music in the crowd
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I have not read any books relating to entrepreneurs
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Elena: Do what you want and don’t let others influence the things that you are passionate about.
Ella: I would probably tell myself to not stress over school so much
How would your best friend describe you?
Artistic
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
For Ella, it would be something mysterious
What’s next for Doll Riot in 2023?
We are writing a lot of new songs and have more in progress
What is your favorite healthy food?
Salad
And your favorite cheat food?
Chips
How would you explain your fashion style?
We don’t like to conform to a certain style, we dress however we like
What is your own definition of happiness?
Being content with who you are as a person
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Ella said, I would want to meet Franz Kafka because he seems chill and I like his books
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
Ella said, I would want to go to a city with my friends and go to museums
Elena said, her dream holiday would be hanging with my friends with no commitments
Best advice ever given?
Be yourself
Do you support any charity?
No charities in particular, but we have played many benefit shows for causes we are passionate about.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Still playing music with Doll Riot and hopefully touring and writing more music
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Sober to death by car seat headrest
