Check out our interview with singer-songwriter and recording artist Liv Hanna who is back with her first single of the year, “Back to Hell.” In the same vein as her previous release, “Buried Alive,” Liv Hanna gets vulnerable and provides heartfelt, thought-provoking lyrics in “Back to Hell.” The song isn’t the quintessential Pop record as it features sounds from various genres such as Alt-Pop, Dark Pop, Indie Pop, and Pop Soul.
The eclectic, “Back to Hell,” is a mental health anthem. The track equates Hell with the hellish headspace that many are in or constantly find themselves falling back into. The single draws on Liv Hanna’s personal experiences and takes a deep dive into topics such as isolation, rejection, and depression. “‘Back to Hell'” is a reaction to loss and rejection.” Liv Hanna continues: “It is feeling isolated yet somehow finding comfort in your isolation. It’s sometimes easier to stay in that state until you have the energy and support to come back out of it.” The songstress utilizes her raw yet polished vocals to evoke the song’s sincerity and emotional tone.

Hi Liv, please tell us a little about you?
Hi! I’m a 20-year-old singer-songwriter and recording artist from Long Island, New York. Music has always been my life, and songwriting, one of my passions.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Dark, Emotional, Pop.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Artists who have influenced me include Nessa Barrett, Billie Eilish and Dove Cameron, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey. I wanted it to have a Dark Pop vibes and not be too sad despite the dreary lyrics. I believe ‘Back To Hell’ represents many different genres including Dark Pop, Alt-Pop, Indie Pop, and Sad Pop. I chose to make music because music has always been a very important part of my life, and I wanted to share my message with others.
Do you play any instrument?
Yes, I play piano.
Do you ever get nervous?
Of course. I struggle with anxiety and definitely get nervous.
Tell us about your debut single “Back to Hell?” What’s the story behind the song?
‘Back To Hell’ is reflective of how I was feeling at the time – isolated and retreating back to bad habits, and negative self-talk.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
It’s rewarding when people reach out and tell me that they love my music or really needed to hear that song that day. I love hearing how my music affects people.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
Atomic Habits.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Be patient because it’s all going to work out.
How would your best friend describe you?
Outgoing, extroverted, and spontaneous.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
She Slays. It would be about my life and how I get up every day with a positive mindset, and live my life.
What’s next for Liv Hanna in 2023?
I am releasing a few more singles this year and hopefully an EP at the start of 2024!
What is your favorite healthy food?
Avocado toast and sushi!
And your favorite cheat food?
Pasta and ice cream!
How would you explain your fashion style?
I would say Bella Hadid aesthetic, but darker if that makes any sense.
What is your own definition of happiness?
To be present and find joy in the little things that you find in everyday life.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Jennifer Hudson and Nessa Barrett as I love them both so much and believe they are icons in the industry.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
South of France with my mom!! This has been our dream trip forever, so hopefully one day we can go.
Best advice ever given?
Be patient and don’t be too hard on yourself.
Do you support any charity?
Yes, I support mental health charities as I think mental health is extremely important and recourses to get help should be available to everyone.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself as a recording artist, still singing and songwriting.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
I have so many that I can’t even choose, but I guess ‘Love on the Brain’ by Rihanna.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it can definitely be toxic when you’re taking in content rather than putting it out. If you focus on yourself, then it can be a useful tool to grow your business/audience. But, if you are constantly scrolling and comparing others’ lives to yours, it is most definitely detrimental to your mental health.
