Check out our interview with indie/pop singer/songwriter Anna Duboc who just released her new single and video, Flowers From The Grave. This will be followed by Promises From Hell, (August 6th) and with her full EP Beautiful Nightmare releasing September 24th. In trying to capture the essence and musical excitement of Anna (pronounced AH-na) Duboc, the standard clichés we usually reach for to describe such a phenomenon – naturally gifted, prodigy, old soul, on fire – seem limiting.
Having sung with everyone from Katy Perry and Andrea Bocelli to Kenny Loggins, the multi-talented 14-year old singer/songwriter is quickly emerging as a powerful, eloquent and inspirational voice of her generation. Over the past year, she has released a series of popular live performance piano and voice videos that have earned her over 5 million views on YouTube.

Hi Anna, please tell us a little about you?
I’m Anna, pronounced ah-na, I’m 14 years old, a Virgo, and I’m a singer-songwriter.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
I’m not very good at describing myself but I would say loyal, observant, and patient.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I started in a musical theater group when I was 4. I was the lead in 19 musicals over the next 8 years and got to sing with many great people like Andre Bocelli and Katy Perry. Also, my mom is in the business and when I started writing songs, she helped me record them in our home studio.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Emotional, soulful, and deep.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
A few people, some of the basic ones are people like Billie Eilish and Queen, also Ariana Grande and Johnny Cash. It’s a wide range of artists. I choose to make music because it is a good outlet for my emotions.
Do you play any instrument?
Yes, I play piano and guitar.
Do you ever get nervous?
Not before performances, but in everyday life, yes.
Tell us about your tracks “Yellow Car,” “Lonely,” and “Blamed It On Me?” What’s the story behind this tracks?
Lonely was originally written about how I felt in everyday life being around people who never fully accepted me, but when covid hit we decided to change the meaning to be about the isolation during covid. I don’t completely remember why I wrote Yellow Car since it was over a year ago, but I do remember that I was in a bit of a dark place especially cause of Covid, so I wrote a song about how it has to get better. Blamed It On Me was written for a friend about her breakup, I don’t remember the situation but it must’ve been spicy enough for me to write something about it.
Now tell us about your cover of “Break My Heart Again?”
I’m a fan of Finneas and his writing and I loved the song, so I wanted to do a cover of it and my mom recorded it on her iPhone and it ended up doing pretty well.
What is the feeling to be in the same conversation as Billie Eilish and that her brother and producer Finneas mentioned you can become the next Billie? That’s amazing! Congrats!
It’s always a compliment to be compared to someone as talented as her.
Did you had plans/concerts planned and cancelled because of COVID? If so have you done any online concerts or interaction with your fans?
We had a video planned for Lonely to shoot the day COVID put us in quarantine, so we had to do a different version just filmed on our phones.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
I love making and writing music, also the video and photoshoots, those are always fun. The outcome of both the music and visuals is always so cool. I’d say coming up with content for social media can be hard, sometimes I just like to relax and not have to worry about my IG and just focus on my music.
What are the five things you can’t live without?
Sleep, my best friends, and rain
What’s next for Anna Duboc in 2021?
I’m going to be releasing a few things in the summer, so we’ll see what happens.
What is you favorite song? And why?
Angel by Finneas. The composition is incredible and the way he shows emotion in his voice makes you feel what he’s saying.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
I have no idea, as of right now probably something like “Inside the Mind of an Overly Emotional Teen”.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I don’t read a lot of entrepreneur books, mainly Syfi so not sure.
Now talking about Instagram, can you share some tips for keeping your account interesting?
Take pictures and videos whenever you go somewhere that is interesting or when you travel.
You are followed by so many people. How do you feel about that pressure of doing always the right thing, and encourage people to follow their dreams?
I don’t feel the pressure of always having to do the right thing, you know. I’m 14, I’m going to screw up here and there it’s normal. Encouraging people to follow their dreams and telling them life gets better isn’t something I feel pressure to do, I think it’s something a lot of people need to hear so I think encouraging them is more something I like to do rather than something I have to.
I bet you get millions of it, but what are the best and worst Instagram DM pickup lines you received so far?
Oh dear God ok one of the best ones was “So I went to the doctor last week to get tested for COVID but turns out all I had is an attraction for you.” Also, I’ve gotten a lot of “Marry me” which is great, really gets to the point, and tells you what they want, very straightforward. Some of the worst are things like “Pure breathtaking sexiness” coming from 37-year-old men living in Nevada.
Any loves other than music?
I love true crime, I like to study things like psychology, criminology, and forensics on the side. I’ve seen way too many documentaries on serial killers and murderers, but if I weren’t doing music, I would want to be something like a behavioral analyst in the FBI, which is why I watch them.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Sebastian Stan seems so sweet, and he plays Bucky which is probably one of the best characters in the MCU. Or Ariana Grande, which I don’t think needs to be explained, I mean she’s Ariana Grande.
Best advice ever given?
“Every pain gives a lesson, and every lesson changes a person” – Anonymous.
How’s a typical day in your life?
I wake up then fall asleep again, go out to eat, come back work on stuff usually music or dance, occasionally tennis, maybe go on a drive with my mom, homework, eat then go to sleep. That’s a general overview not really in detail.
Name one your strengths?
I think I’m pretty tough and thick-skinned when it comes to bullies or haters due to past trauma. I also think I have a pretty good ear when it comes to music.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
Either sleep the whole day or go somewhere with my best friend, preferably in the middle of the city.
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
I have a few but the main one is Maniac by Conan Gray. I love him and want him to be my best friend and can also think of an ex when I rage belt this song in the car which is always fun.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Sitting in the pouring rain under a cloudy sky dancing with someone or listening to music.
Do you support any charities?
Compassion International and No Kid Hungry are the ones I currently help with.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love a good Caesar salad, or any fruit other than coconut.
And your favorite cheat food?
Anything from Taco Bell. I could live off of Taco Bell.
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
I haven’t been on many first dates, but I’d say if they make a blatantly sexist comment, it’s not going great for them.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
In college getting a degree in criminology or music, or New York in a penthouse.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it’s a great place where you can share those interests or find friends, but it can also be a place filled with hate and degrading comments.
