Welcome to Naluda Magazine! Please tell us a little about yourself.
My name is Emy Perez. I was born in Venezuela, but really I’m a globetrotter! I’ve lived in the US, UK, Germany, Holland and now I’m itching to move to Spain.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Creative, visionary, impulsive.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I got in the industry when I was 7 years old. That’s when I won my first national singing award. I got to perform for 50k people the second time I ever sung live. Crazy times!
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Sexy Bosslady Gangstah! lol ???? let’s pretend that was 3 words.
Tell us about your new track “Zoom Zoom” and how did you come to collaborate with DFRNS?
We started working through a good friend and great songwriter, Feliciana. We started by writing music for others, and we did great, but when you write for others you tend to limit your creativity as how far you’ll push the envelope. We got along so well and our style really complemented each other insanely, that it felt natural to start working on something of our own.
Do you ever get nervous?
Constantly, I’m my own worst critic and I’m an over-thinker.
Which artists and styles inspired and influenced you?
There are so many. I have a new favourite yearly. Back in the day I was into Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Prince, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill. Now, Drake, Bad Bunny, Ozuna and Post Malone are the artists I listen to most.
When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
Give me Netflix on a big screen, McDonalds and a bed. I’ll veg out for a week.
Best stage you have ever played?
Miami arena!
Funniest/Crazy thing that ever happened at an event?
I got food poisoning during a show. I got sick on stage and kept going. The adrenaline kept me standing.
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
Some days I feel like I have the best job in the world and nothing can go wrong.
I guess it’s all about recognition, all musicians strive for it and most of us songwriters are brainiacs who have had horrible childhoods, so we chase the high from it. Separating what’s healthy from what it’s not, is a gift that comes with experience.
What’s your advice for the newer artists?
Have their hate for supper. Let it fuel your soul and give you the strength to carry on. Adversity can make us great and never forget, perseverance kills talent every day, all day. If you were blessed with both, better get to fcking work!
What was the first record that you bought?
Don’t laugh. Vanilla ICE ICE BABYYYYY!
What book should every entrepreneur read?
Anything by Tony Robbins, he’s my everyday guru.
How would your best friend describe you?
Smart, funny, beautiful inside & out and a true inspiration. I just asked him and that really made me tear up!
Best advice ever given?
“Things don’t happen to you, they happen for you” – Tony Robbins
Name one your strengths!
I’ll never give up.
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
Cuddles, movie or a book, spa retreat and tons of sex with my BF!
What is your own definition of happiness?
Being free, loving without measure, faithfulness, trust, being able to take care of my family and loved one. Sunny beaches and a healthy world where animals and people can coexist and if all that happens with a cocktail in my hand, even better.
Do you support any charities?
Alzheimer’s disease, cancer funds and Green Peace.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Sushi
And your favorite cheat food?
Fries and burgers in that order.
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
I’m in a loving relationship so it doesn’t apply anymore. But, I guess it’d be someone who’s fake, and has nothing interesting to say and comes across as an untrustworthy and disloyal person.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Tony Robbins, he’s a freaking hero. I’d ask him a million questions about life.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
Living in a sunny beachfront house with the fam close-by and a studio to write and sing until I drop with the love of my life by my side.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Boho-Baggy-Chic.
What do you think of Social Media?
It’s a necessary evil. Though I do love funny animal videos. Lol ????
