Hi Haley, please tell us a little about you?
Well hi! I’m Haley! I’m 24 years years old from Long Island, New York ❤️ And I make music not just for me but for the people / teens & kids that need that extra push to believe in themselves and know they aren’t alone. Things will get better and that’s kinda the moral of why I songwrite. I turn my terrible problems and choices into really good stories / songs that tend to bring a smile to my face so I hope it does for someone else.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Bubbly, Driven, Passionate
How did you get started in the business?
The real story starts in the 7th grade where my twin sister and I had to create a talent project for our school. She was dancing as I was singing. Absolutely embarrassing but hey, no one told me I was bad. Years later I was a junior in highschool and an opportunity came up for me to be in a girl group with other girls from NYC, from posting one Youtube Video, Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men found us and became our manager. DAME, was created and we shipped ourselves all to Atlanta, Georgia for 5/6 years. That was technically my college experience (I did do college online and graduated on time too ☺️). But yeah, when the girl group had ended I took my knowledge for harmonies and team work and started to build on how I can better myself and put out my own story, I felt like my life and work in music wasn’t finished so I started writing and meeting more friends in NYC who also wrote and produced and here we are today! 🙂
How has this changed your life?
I don’t think I’ve honestly changed as a person when it comes to music but it’s for sure opened my eyes to see the bigger picture. I can honestly say I still keep a healthy balance of music and me time to where I don’t burn out because this industry is so cut throat so it’s important to always remind yourself why you do what you love.
Describe your sound in 4 words?
Fun, Flirty & Authentic, Truthful
Tell us about your new single “Laughing in my Sleep?”
Laughing in my sleep is a song I so badly needed to create for myself. I was at a point in my life where I felt I still needed validation from people (in terms of relationships) and it was hard for me to break out of that cycle until this song was made with my two best friends who wrote “Couch” & “Knock Yourself Out” with me and it completely made a 180 spin to my mindset and I haven’t looked back since. The song is about not needed the thing you thought you did and enjoy the moments as they come- opening your eyes and actually being present in the moment.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Most rewarding thing is hearing people sing your songs back to you. That right there makes me cry every single time cause it shows how the work is paying off and how I play a positive effect on someone else’s life.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Oh man, I’ve learned a lot and I’m not even 25 yet but I would say for starters…
1) do things for yourself: I used to care and give so much to other people, not just friends / relationships but people in the industry because I wanted to be apart of it so bad. But now realizing- myself is the only person that should be cared for first and if I’m not happy doing something, it wasn’t meant for me. And that’s okay.
2) from a song writing perspective, if it feels weird or wrong: it’s probably right : the best thing to do is to get out of your head when writing music and feel how natural songs come when your not zoned in on the perfect word or melody. A lot of great things come from mistakes.
What do you think is the secret to have a successful IG account?
Authenticity and honestly (I’ll leave it as that haha)
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
I would say most importantly is to smile, not fake it but actually smile for yourself. Again this came with my kind personality to always be there more for other people then myself and giving my arms and legs for people who never deserved it. So I would say to smile more for myself and telling her that being perfect isn’t a lifestyle worth achieving, being yourself is more gratifying.
How would your best friend describe you?
I think my friends would continue to say they are shocked of how different I am on stage because I was always a listener and never spoke much. I mean when there’s tea to share I’ll say it but I normally stay quiet haha. But I think they would be super proud of how balanced I created my lifestyle to be because it’s always hard to find a happy medium of social life and work life and I think I balance it pretty well and never forget that I wouldn’t be anywhere without their support. They’re always the first ones to buy tickets to shows and listen to the music.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
You’ve come along way: I think that would be my title because I’ve always wondered where my life would go and what I would do and through it all I became this powerful woman that not only doesn’t let words effect her but created all of this music, more then dozens. It’s always a good reminder to take a step back and be proud of where you came from physically and mentally.
What’s next for Haley Gold in 2022?
SO MUCH NEW MUSIC! (Thank the lords) I’ve been creating and writing all this music since 2020 and I’m so proud of to finally release it into the wild! Haha of course shows too like how can we forget! But I’m just excited to have people hear what I’ve been working on. Rocket Science releases May 20th my second single after Laughing in My Sleep so that song is a whole other level of confidence and sexy.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I like to say I eat and live a healthy lifestyle and still learning now to create that balance but I’ve been obsessed with Gwyneth Paltrow GOOP recipes: that girl knows how to cook hahaha I’ve been making her Mexican bowls or pancake recipes… SOO GOOD 10/10 haha
And your favorite cheat food?
Pretty simple girl to say the least again, I’m a chicken and fries girl by heart. Will never say no to chicken fingers and fries. And I live a healthy healthy lifestyle but there’s no way around that. Hahah that and OREOS oooo man, throw me an Oreo and your forgiven! Haha
How would you explain your fashion style?
Haha I’m a pretty simple girl when it comes to fashion. I used to go all out wearing some crazy pieces but now I found that I’m perfectly me wearing jeans, band tees and cowboy boots or sneakers. Hahah that’s me to a T. I got a huge absurd collection of band tee’s which the number is pretty nuts to say but it’s highhh haha
What is your own definition of happiness?
Your more serious answer is: Knowing that what I’m doing is what I want to do and not for anyone else.
But if we’re joking about it: late night blasting music with my friends driving down the jones beach drive way and then going to sonic getting shakes and food after words… that’s also happiness hahaha
Do you support any charity?
I’m gunna keep these short and sweet cause it can get long. First I proudly and will always support women’s health organizations and awareness foundations. With my own health journey years back, I strongly became passionate about spreading the word to women on how to keep up with their health.
Secondly mentally health organizations are huge. I wish I had these tools that teens have now to ask for help or talk to someone so I’m the first to truly make sure that kids and teens and young adults know in there heart that someone can is always there for them for anything they need and there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Ooo I know where I’ll be. Probably 2 albums in-touring for the second album across the US. & Euro. Def manifest ain’t that pop album Grammy and songwriting recognition hahaha. But yeah- dream big cause if you don’t you won’t see where your potential can lead you too.
Favorite song? Why?
I wouldn’t say these are my favorite songs but these songs are the ones that I have a personal connection with.
1) Michael Buble: feeling good
This song was the song my twin sister and I did for our talent project together in 7th grade.
2) proud Mary: Tina turner
This song when I was younger (my family holds it against me) I guess was the only song I was ever singing as a child and knew the Tina turner moves when she performed and they pop this video out every holiday (pretty sure even at my future wedding they would too) haha
3) Somebody to Love: Queen
This song get me to try song writing and learning Melodie’s for the first time back after my girl group had ended so maybe when I was 19/20.
What do you think of Social Media?
I love social media just like the next person but I wish that people didn’t get recognized for just lifting up there water bottle with their pinky fingers haha like there are sooooo many talented people on TikTok and most of them aren’t recognized soo I think that’s why I’m a little iffy about social media but also people like to believe that social media is a way of living and it’s not. So if we can stir away from being perfect on social media then I’d also approve of it
Where can we follow you?
@haleygoldd on every single social media platform (includes TikTok)
Movie: Huge scary movie buff, same with docs. But like at the same time….Marvel ughh Tom Holland I love you! I watched all of marvel through the pandemic in order, probably best 2 weeks of my life hahaha
