Hi Olivia, please tell us a little about you?
Hi!! My name is Olivia, I’m from Winnipeg MB Canada. I’m 23 years old. Growing up our winters were so cold so I spent lots of time indoors writing music. Music truly takes up almost every aspect of my life and I’m the happiest when creating/performing it!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
introspective, bubbly, driven
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry? How has this changed your life?
When I was 12 years old I started writing songs. I spent the years leading up to 18 gigging locally at any and every venue in my hometown. One day I was scouted for a Canadian TV show which I had the honour of being on and actually winning. This show truly helped me dive into the music “industry” side of things and I’m forever grateful for that opportunity. Being able to do music as a full time job is the biggest blessing. I’m forever grateful to my supporters for making this dream a reality!
Describe your sound in 3 words?
smooth,wavy, vibrant
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Growing up, music was always playing in my household. My dad would always play guitar which sparked my curiosity for writing and playing. I’m grateful to my parents for exposing me to so much diverse music. To this day Fleetwood Mac, Norah Jones, and Eric Clapton are all on heavy rotation on my playlists.
Tell us about your new single “WONDERLAND?” What’s the story behind the song?
Prior to a writing session I had nearly a year ago, I had rewatched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Following the movie I re-fell in love with the whimsical nature and dream world of the movie. When I headed into the session to write, I loved the idea of starting with the theme “wonderland” and letting that be the guiding force. A few hours later this song “WONDERLAND” was born! It’s about being in a state of awe and chasing your dreams/being with people who make you feel like you’re dreaming!
And about the success of your previous single with Bhad Bhabie “VIBE CHECK?”
It was so incredible to have an artist hop on my song. This was my first original release that included a feature and it was amazing to have her on it. Her fans were extremely supportive and welcomed the track excitedly!
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Hearing that listers resonate with songs and reaching out to let me know why. We’re all in this human experience together and knowing that we have all universally felt so many of these intense emotions is comforting.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
It can be tough to trust your authenticity sometimes.. But if you can build that muscle, the universe will reward you in the most beautiful ways!
How would your best friend describe you?
As a good listener, workout buddy and ideal travel companion!
If you were a book, what would be the title and why?
“The Duality of Life” It’d be about the ebb and flow of life and how to deal with everything in between!
What’s next for Olivia Lunny in the last months of 2022 and for 2023?
I’m very excited to be joining my friend Tyler Shaw on his Canadian North Star tour! I have a holiday song that just came out called “Under the Lights” And I’ve been hibernating in the studio making so much new music so stay tuned…!
What is your own definition of happiness?
Consistent fulfillment. Health, and having my loved ones in close proximity.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet John Lennon and observe his writing process.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Great.things.take.TIME
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Touring the world, writing songs for myself and others. With a house of my own and maybe even a pup!
What do you think of Social Media?
I think Social Media is such an amazing connecting factor, but can be addictive/negative when not used in moderation!
