Check out our interview with singer-songwriter and soon-to-be first time mom Zoe Zobrist, who just released a very special single titled “Oh Baby.” Zoe wrote “Oh Baby” as a letter of hopes and dreams for her future child and while it is definitely a song that will pull on the heartstrings of parents/parents-to-be, I also think it’s song has the potential to resonate beyond – as Zoe puts it, “whether you have children on earth or waiting on the other side, are expecting or hope to someday, or feel love for the people who brought you this life, I hope this song can be close to your heart.”
With songs that are as personal as they are dynamic, Zoe Zobrist delivers brilliantly human and heart-wrenchingly honest vignettes.

Hi Zoe! Please tell us a little about yourself?
Hi there! I’m a 25 year old singer/songwriter from Dallas, TX. I’m southern California based, but currently living in Georgia until the holidays while my husband finishes up his army contract. I’m pregnant and due this month with my first child. I’m big on adventures, paddle-boarding, riding my motorcycle and hiking.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Adventurous, creative, genuine.
How did you get started in music?
I started playing piano at 5 and grew up listening to a lot of my dad’s 70’s record collection. I started writing my own songs when I was 7.
How has this changed your life?
Music has been a great way for me to work through everything in my life. It’s so therapeutic for me and I’m really grateful for that outlet. It did make my upbringing a bit unconventional and probably exposed me to more things at an early age. But all in all I wouldn’t change it.
How would you describe your sound in 3 words?
Confessional, earthy, open
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
A lot of classic rock as well as my vocal teacher growing up. I started musical theater when I was 7 and I was sooo shy. But if I hadn’t done musical theater, I don’t know if I would have ever had the courage to share music with people and be on stage.
Do you play any instruments?
I do! Piano, guitar, bass, and I can play the drums but wouldn’t consider myself a drummer yet, haha.
Do you ever get nervous?
I do! I struggle with anxiety but being on stage and sharing music with people makes me so happy, so a lot of times it’s just getting past that initial moment.
Tell us about your new single “Oh Baby.”
“Oh Baby” was written as a letter to my unborn child. It speaks to the love I immediately felt for this human I have yet to meet and the desire to give them a better upbringing than I had.
What’s the story behind the song?
I wrote it when I found out I was pregnant. I didn’t know anything about the baby yet, the pregnancy was a huge surprise so I was working through a lot of emotion.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Looking back on different parts of my life, remembering how I felt when I was writing a certain song.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Do what makes you genuinely happy. Trying to fit in someone else’s box or idea is never going to feel right. Trust your instincts, if your gut is telling you something, LISTEN. Allow yourself to experience life, to open up, to go out and explore.
How would your best friend describe you?
Hmmm, a lot of my close friend’s call me for advice. I really love helping people sort through the things they’re feeling if I can. Other than that, creative, kind of all over the place, adventurous.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Dang, that’s a hard one! I’m actually working on writing one now and coming up with a title has been difficult, so I’ll keep you posted!
What’s next for Zoe Zobrist in 2021?
In 2021, having this baby and recovering, writing music, moving back to California. In 2022, hopefully lots of shows and creating!!
What is your favorite healthy food?
I always make bowls of veggies (broccoli & sweet potato are my faves,) a fried egg, some primal kitchen mayo & hot sauce. I’m a “throw together what’s in the fridge” kind of person haha.
And your favorite cheat food?
Pizza!
How would you explain your fashion style?
Beachy, hippie, moto combo.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Allowing myself to feel and experience things. Trying to take a big bite out of life.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
John Lennon. I would love to sit down and have tea with him or go for a walk. I love his music so much and he seemed like such a genuine person.
Best advice ever given?
If you want to do something, do it. Don’t feel like it’s too late. Whether you do it or don’t, the same amount of time will pass.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Hopefully playing shows, putting out music, just creating, creating in all kinds of ways.
Favorite song? Why?
“Going to California” by Led Zeppelin. It brings back a lot of nostalgia for me and feels so comforting.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think it’s good and bad. The good thing is that we can reach a lot of people, have an outlet when things like a pandemic happen. The bad is comparison. It’s so much easier to be hard on yourself with so much in your face every day.
