Hi Haley, please tell us a little about you?
I’m Haley, I’m 19 years old, half Vietnamese, half Caucasian and born and raised in Austin, Tx! I grew up bouncing around from gymnastics, to sports, to taekwondo, until finally settling on dance. One day, I picked up a camera, started videoing my life, and taught myself how to edit, so now YouTube has become my full-time job. I recently bought my very own house with my boyfriend, which I’m really excited about.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Introverted-extravert, ambitious, whimsical.
Who is your role model?
Jesus!
How did you get started into the business?
I picked up my dad’s iPhone 3 and started recording my outfits, dance, and makeup, then taught myself how to edit on the iMovie app.
How has this changed your life?
It has given me the privilege of living my dream life (being creative everyday) as well as being able to fully support my mom and retire her after she lost her job.
What mindsets helped making you so successful?
Believing in yourself is everything. That and also patience. I didn’t make money or gain a following for my first 6 years on YouTube.
And about your colorful clothing line Retro Reprise?
Retro Reprise was a vision I had sitting in my graphic design class my junior year of high school. I realized that any time I wore a cool pattern similar to my Retro Reprise line, people would really take an interest in it. The pieces I owned always created so many conversations around clothing, more so than with anything I had worn before. When I realized it was really difficult to find similar pieces, I decided I’d create a line myself, so that I wouldn’t have to search any further. I created it so anyone else who enjoys the same retro style could wear it as well!
Where we can find it?
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Vulnerability takes more strength than being closed off.
And about your motivational podcast ‘Call Me Candid?’
My friend Lilly Ann and I created this podcast in hopes to create a community of men and women who want to motivate each other, cheer each other on, and be a voice of encouragement when self-belief becomes difficult.
What’s next for Haley Pham in 2020?
Making videos that require higher production, and concepts that will push my limits physically and mentally. New Retro Reprise collections, focusing on Call Me Candid podcast, and perhaps flipping/renovating a home for a YouTube Series.
Do you support any charity?
My aunt created a charity called “Hope”, which supports orphans in Vietnam and helps them get access to schooling and treatment if they have been affected by Agent orange.
