Hi Joël! Welcome to Naluda Magazine! Where are we speaking to you from today?
Hey there, I hope you are doing well. I’m in my home studio in beautiful Switzerland right now.
Can you tell us how you got into the music world?
I have been musically active since I was a child. I learned to play the guitar at an early age and as a young teenager the love for electronic music came. At the age of 15 I learned how to DJ with two turntables and a mixer in my room at home. When I got my first gig, things started to come together. More shows followed and soon I was on the road every weekend. With 20 I got signed to a renowned Swiss label, which is when I started to get more interested in producing. From then on, I focused on bigger bookings, rather less but more significant ones. I played at well-known events and big festivals, collecting my first international experience. At the same time, I developed my style, which I continuously refined while producing. For a long time, I was not satisfied with my productions and had to improve until I released my first EP “Take That” in 2020. At that point I got also signed by the Sirup Artist Agency. Since then I had six more releases and with “Losing My Mind” follows the seventh.
Congratulations on your new single ‘Losing My Mind’. Can you tell us about the production process and how it came about?
Thank you! Well, it’s a deeper tech house track. The drums and the groove were dominant from the beginning and I wanted to let this be the core without overloading the track. It fits well in a set for late hours and hits really cool. I already tested the track in several clubs, like in Miami where I played a month ago. It’s a great follow-up to my last single “BAD”, which was played by Solardo and EDX among others.
How is it working with Karonga Records?
I think the fresh label is great! It makes me really happy to release on there. As a family member of Sirup Music, the label is doing well and as usual it’s a close and respectful collaboration.
What has been your biggest moment in your career to date?
I don’t think I can talk about THE biggest moment – little strokes fell great oaks. However, every time EDX takes me along, it gets big.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My closest friends.
Which artists and styles inspired and influenced you?
Daft Punk’s “Homework” had a huge impact on my childhood and everything that happened musically after that. As a young DJ I also learned a lot from Croatia Squad, for which I will always be grateful.
When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?
In the nature, no matter if at the lake or the sea, in the forest or in the mountains. Nature is the most important source of energy for me.
Best stage you have ever played?
I like the festival stages best. There’s a cool photo of me on which I look very tiny on the giant stage of the Vibez Festival.
What was the first record that you bought?
That was the Marshall Matters LP and I remember how my father reacted when we listened to it in the car. *laughing*
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Never give up. Pursue your dream, work hard and listen to your intuition. But especially: stay true to yourself.
Best and worst thing about your job?
The best thing is to travel around the world, always meeting new people and experiencing a lot. I can’t remember anything negative at the moment.
Who would be your dream to work with?
So far, I was holding back with collaborations, but if Vintage Culture, Camelphat or Nora En Pure would knock on my door, the wait would have an end. *laughing*
Best track to get the party started?
With “Can’t Stop Crying” by Angelo Ferreri you really heat me up.
Best track to wind the night down?
Any of Passenger10’s epic bombs.
Your idea of a perfect Sunday is?
Sleep in, a hearty breakfast and rest all day.
What is your favorite healthy food?
A chicken salad
And your favorite cheat food?
A burger from the grill and fries
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
I dream big, but keep them to myself. Let’s do another interview in five years and let’s see!
