Check out our interview with actor and musician Kyle Meagher who recently released his latest single “Numb”, which has already racked up over 80k streams since its release in late January.
Numb is a pop-rock song about anxiety, mental health, and of course, heartbreak. Written after a break-up (as any musician does), my song describes how feeling nothing at all can sometimes be better than feeling conflicting emotions for someone you’ve parted ways with. It’s got a killer 70s pop and modern pop punk sound, and blends the best of both worlds to create a fierce and desperate track with lots to love!

Hi Kyle, please tell us a little about you?
I’m Kyle Meagher, I’m a 20 year old Ottawa-born actor and musician.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Driven, inventive, and dramatic.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I’ve pretty much been in the arts my whole life. I did piano as a kid, and participated in local theater plays, but I only started to make it a career once I turned 10. I went to a local acting agency, totally expecting to get turned away, or at the very most end up on a local hardware store flier, but that choice led to me getting a ton of crazy opportunities afterwards. Netflix, CBC, feature films… My world got completely turned upside down from auditioning that day.
For music, I’d played and sang rock music my whole life but always considered myself more of an actor. One day though, I was on set for a new TV pilot and the creator of the show asked me if I did any singing. I told them I did, but had never tried it professionally. I ended up recording the theme for the show, and ended up falling in love with music all over again. I reached out to a couple of colleagues, recorded my first original song, and then the rest is history.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Fierce, Intense, and raging.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Growing up, I used to play casually with a local rock band, and though I have a more conventionally pop sound, I always sneak a little bit of that into my songs here and there. My latest song “Numb” is a perfect testament to that. The grit and guitars are all reminiscent of the good old days with my local band.
Do you ever get nervous?
All the time. Someone once told me that a little nervousness can help with a performance though. Get your adrenaline pumping, and you can channel that into delivering an awesome show for everyone watching.
Tell us about your new single “Numb?”
Numb is a pop-rock song about anxiety, mental health, and of course, heartbreak. Written after a break-up (as any musician does), this song describes how feeling nothing at all can sometimes be better than feeling conflicting emotions for someone you’ve parted ways with. Composed with 70s pop and modern pop punk in mind, this song blends the best of both worlds to create a fierce and desperate sound.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Definitely the people I meet on my journey. Every time I meet someone who’s watched my latest film project, or someone who really related to my songs, or someone who appreciated the short films I’ve written, it really makes me feel like I’ve left a mark in the world. I want to create something people will enjoy, and if I can do that, that’s all the reward I need.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Don’t listen to what other people say, follow your own path. Growing up, I was always picked on by other kids for being a little different. Being an actor at such a young age, and interacting with people multiple times your age in a professional setting can sometimes make you seem a bit weird to kids your age. However, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for those opportunities, so I’d tell my younger self to be proud of himself, tell everyone that acting and music is the coolest thing you can do, and keep putting your heart and soul into your craft.
What’s next for Kyle Meagher in 2023?
I’ve got a new single coming out this upcoming April, and I am hosting a TV show that comes out later this year. Check out my socials for the details.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Gotta be eggs. I don’t know why, but I’ve just been on a crazy egg kick lately. Fried, scrambled, omelets, like I’m obsessed. Send me your egg recipes if you’ve got any by the way, always wanting to try something new 🙂
And your favorite cheat food?
Nothing beats a good bag of “Old Fashioned” BBQ chips after a long day. Not the regular BBQ chips though, not the same. Trust me.
What is your favorite song for karaoke?
Even though I am a pop/pop-rock musician, my go-to songs at karaoke are actually country. My dad was always a big country singer at karaoke, he actually used to host our local karaoke nights back in the day with my grandfather. He’d do Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, you name the country song, he could sing it. Totally inspired me as a kid, so now my go-to songs are Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton, Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker, and I Don’t Even Know Your Name by Alan Jackson!
What do you think of Social Media?
I am actually a huge fan of social media. It gives artists like myself the chance to connect with people worldwide, and really showcase all the stuff we’ve worked so hard on. I’m always responding to people on all my platforms, so feel free to reach out 🙂
