Please tell us a little about you?
I’m Braxton Alexander, a 16 year old Film/TV actor from North Carolina and Love being an actor. I always enjoy staying active, whether it be playing basketball with my friends or going to the gym, I’m always doing something. I have an 8 year old little brother who as much as we enjoy annoying each other, he is one of the funniest people I’ve ever met and I love him very much. Traveling is one of the perks that comes with being an actor, and it happens to be one of the things I enjoy to do the most. I love to meet new people and I am always looking forward to learning and experiencing new things.
What projects have you been apart of?
The Righteous Gemstones (HBO), The Summer I Turned Pretty (Amazon Prime), Black Bird (AppleTV+), The Black Phone (Blumhouse), Mr Mercedes (HBO MAX), TAG (Warner Bros), MacGyver (CBS), DOOM PATROL (HBO MAX), The Passage (FOX), I Want You Back (Amazon Prime), Christmas on the Square (Netflix).
How has this changed your life?
Acting has without a doubt changed my life for the better. When I was younger I had a very difficult time with confidence, I was always the shy one in the room. I didn’t have an easy time holding day to day conversations with people and my parents decided it would be best for me to enroll in some acting classes. That’s when I found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Being able to express myself into the character’s I played allowed me to step out of my shell and helped me build the confidence I needed in order do the things I wanted. Acting has played a huge part in my life, it turned me into the person I am today and allowed me to meet some wonderful people along the way.
What’s your advice to newer actors?
Stay diligent and never give up, but make sure you really love it. This business is tough, if you go into it expecting something, you will probably be disappointed. You will get told “no” a thousand times before you get a single “yes.”
If you truly love to act, then the best advice is to move past the times you get told no and focus on moving towards that first time someone gives you that one opportunity. Prepare yourself to be ready for when that opportunity comes, and make the most out of it.
What are the greatest lessons you’ve learned so far in this business?
This business is very complex, you need to have a lot of patience and a great work ethic to succeed. It has taught me that working hard for the things I care about is the most rewarding thing I could do for myself. It has also showed me the importance of being spontaneous and ready for anything, sometimes the script gets changed the day of filming, or the director would like you to improve something that wasn’t in the script. Do not be afraid to put yourself out of your comfort zone, the more comfortable I became with being uncomfortable, the more growth I saw in my work and in myself.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
The book I would recommend to anyone, Howard Fine’s: Fine on Acting-A Vision of the Craft, It is a book that not only benefits actors greatly, but serves as a blueprint for how to succeed in life.
