Check out our interview with talented Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Natasha Ami Palmer, known to her fans simply as “Tash,” who recently released her new song “Rachel and Ross.”
“The inspiration for Rachel and Ross was really my love of the TV show “Friends” and how it has become my comfort show. I have seen it all the way through countless times, and will watch it to make myself feel better when I’m anxious or overwhelmed. In the song, I reference the show when I’m talking about avoiding my real problems and choosing to distract myself instead.”

Hi Tash, please tell us a little about you?
I am a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Sydney, Australia. I have been writing since I was 13 and have always wanted to pursue a career as an artist.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Chill, soulful, and pop.
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Growing up in a very musical family, I had a lot of encouragement to get into it. Both of my parents play music; my mum in particular writes her own songs, which inspired me to do the same. When I first started playing guitar and writing at 13, Tori Kelly was my biggest influence, and I still very much admire her today.
Do you play any instrument?
I play guitar, and also played the flute in high school (but I don’t play the flute anymore).
Do you ever get nervous?
All the time, haha. But usually, if I’m doing a set, after the first song, the nerves settle a little bit.
Tell us about your new single “Rachel and Ross?”
Rachel and Ross shouts out my favorite TV show “Friends” and how I always resort to watching it instead of working through my problems in the real world.
What’s the story behind the song?
Rachel and Ross is about feeling like your life isn’t going as planned and wanting to distract yourself from it instead of doing something about it. I mention the characters “Rachel and Ross” in a lyric where I’m saying I’d rather watch reruns of Friends than have to talk to anyone.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I love hearing a song finished after my producer, Mark Feist has completed the production and arrangement. It’s like opening presents on Christmas day when you’re a kid. The most exciting feeling.
When you started your Social Media accounts, did you expect such a success?
Not really. I started my Instagram page in high school prior to being signed with Hitmaker’s Entertainment. I wanted to post covers for my friends at school to see, but I never anticipated the growth that I have now.
How do you keep finding the passion to continue growing and if you still have a project on your bucket list?
I still feel like I am very much at the beginning of my journey, despite having released a lot of music already. I would love to put out a full body of work which I’m sure will happen in the near future.
As a popular artist you are followed by so many people. How do you feel about that pressure of doing always the right thing, and encourage people to follow their dreams?
I think the best way to pursue a career in the music industry is to be authentically yourself and not to worry about crafting a version of you that you think is “the right thing”. Nobody can sustain that. Of course there will always be underlying pressures because you know people are watching you and can be quick to judge. However, I do believe that the right people will discover your music if you stick doing what feels natural to you.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I’m not an avid reader; sorry, I don’t have an answer for this one.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
The next few years won’t be easy, but you’re mentally strong enough to handle them. There will be growing pains, but as uncomfortable as they are, they need to happen to you.
How would your best friend describe you?
I think my best friend would say I’m like a grandma. I’m not a super social butterfly; I rarely drink or go out. She would probably have some heartwarming things to say about me as well; she’s very caring and sweet. We love each other like sisters.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
Living with constant anxiety 101.
What’s next for Tash in the last months of 2023 and for 2024?
I have some new releases coming out over the next few months, as well as plans to play some shows in early 2024. I will have more info to share on that soon!
What is your favorite healthy food?
Avocado is a great one. Or salmon.
And your favorite cheat food?
It’s hard to pick one, but I’d probably say Hiho Burger.
How would you explain your fashion style?
My style is pretty chill and comfortable. I wear a lot of jeans, cropped tees, and sneakers. I don’t often wear dresses or skirts unless I’m trying to be fancy.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Being comfortable in your own skin and in the stage of life you are in.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet anyone from the cast of Friends and tell them how much the show has touched me and given me a lot of laughs.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
I’d love to go to Hawaii or somewhere coastal, in a big house by the water, with my close friends and family.
Best advice ever given?
All emotions are part of the human experience. The uncomfortable ones need to be felt from time to time and play an important part in our growth. It’s okay to acknowledge how we feel rather than try to avoid it.
Do you support any charities?
I have made a few donations to Unicef in recent years.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I hope to be financially independent further along in my career, touring the world, and collaborating with artists I look up to.
What is your favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Angel in Disguise – Brandy
What do you think of Social Media?
I have a love-hate relationship with it. I do think it’s a really powerful tool for artists, but at the same time, I hate how it’s changed the role of being an artist into being an influencer too. Being a good vocalist, songwriter, or performer is no longer enough.
