Describe yourself in 3 words?
Patriotic, edgy, old-soul
How did you get started in the business?
I’ve always just loved music and creating it. I started singing from a very young age and taught myself to play guitar at 16. From there I just started playing shows around my hometown and just fell in love with it.
How has this changed your life?
Music has helped me to find who I am and be confident in it that. Being a more introverted individual, playing music has shown me my voice and how to use it.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I’ve just been so lucky to have so many amazing people around me that have taken me under their wing and continue to guide me in the right direction.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Unique, gritty, real
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
My greatest influences have got to be Gretchen Wilson, Loretta Lynn, Ashley McBryde, and Reba. All of their unique talents and sounds have inspired me to make music that has a true country vibe which comes down to a good story put to music that you feel.
If you had to choose performing on stage, recording songs in the studio, or writing a song, which would you choose and why?
I would have to choose performing on stage because as much as I love the creative process of writing and recording music, there is nothing like the feeling of getting to move people with a song.
Do you play any instrument?
I play guitar and a little bit of keys
Do you ever get nervous when you’re on stage?
Yes all the time haha!
Tell us about your new single “Never Go Home?”
Never Go Home is a rowdy party anthem that waves the redneck, white and blue flag of a tried-and-true American summer.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is the moments when I can share music with others and tell stories that move people.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
I would say the greatest lesson I have learned so far is that music really is art. No song is the same and there’s no way to put the music that you create in a box.
How would your best friend describe you?
I think my best friend would describe me as creative, outgoing, and always down for a good time.
What’s next for Payton Howie in 2021?
I have a ton of new music and music videos coming this year that I’m stoked to share. I also have tour dates across the country and I can’t wait to get out to play some shows!
You grew up in California before moving to Texas. Do you ever miss California?
Although there a few things I miss about California, I have had the chance to go back and play a few shows out there so it was definitely nice to visit!
What is your favorite healthy food?
My favorite healthy food would have to be sushi.
And your favorite cheat food?
I love In-N-Out!
How would you explain your fashion style?
More of an edgy country-rock vibe
What is your own definition of happiness?
My definition of happiness is being able to do what I love with people I love
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Loretta Lynn because I feel like I could learn so much from her and I’m sure she has some great stories to tell.
Best advice ever given?
The best advice I have been given is to always be grateful and appreciative of all the love and support I’ve been lucky enough to have along the way.
Do you support any charity?
I have a huge heart for our country’s military and first responders so I always take any chance I get to use what I have to benefit our service men and women.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
5 years from now I hope to be doing what I love most and that’s creating music that moves people.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media is a great tool to connect with people from all over and be expressive
