Hi Lovetta, please tell us a little about you?
I hail from a small town in Michigan and have been living in Nashville making music for 10 years. I love all things music, film, nature, and spirituality. I am a screenwriter, songwriter, filmmaker, and actor. I’m a scorpio, I love horses and wolves, and I was born on Halloween.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Nostalgic, catchy, emotive
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I am very much influenced by the women I grew up listening to like Sheryl Crow, The Cranberries, and Alanis Morissette. Stevie Nicks is also a really big one for me. I knew I wanted to make music from a very young age. I sang on stage for the first time at 8 years old and fell in love with it. I chose to make music because it feeds my soul.
Do you play any instrument?
I play guitar and a very little bit of piano.
Do you ever get nervous?
I still get those pre show jitters, but over the years I’ve become very comfortable onstage.
“Havin’ a Good Time” is about having fun even when things feel chaotic. I wrote it last summer, and wanted it to have a nostalgic feel to it.
Tell us about your new single “Havin’ a Good Time?”
I wrote “Havin’ a Good Time” when I had a million things going on and I couldn’t keep up. I felt completely overwhelmed. I had a moment where I looked around at my life and realized I am doing what I love and having a good time doing it. It’s the first pop song I’ve ever written, and it was a blast bringing it to life.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding part of my work is the people. The people I get to create music with, and the people I get to connect with over music. Making art and sharing art with wonderful humans is my bliss.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I think any successful entrepreneur starts with a healthy inside. I recently read the book Lighter by yung pueblo, and it was transformative.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Enjoy the ride. I spent a lot of time looking at the things I didn’t have and not enjoying the present moment.
How would your best friend describe you?
I asked my best friend what she would say about me, fully expecting a clever funny answer, but she instead sent me a really beautiful message back, so I have to share. Her and I actually directed and produced my music video for my next single, “Havin’ a Good Time.” She’s a bad ass. I’m really lucky to have some incredible women in my life.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
From Whitni Resides “Taylor Dupuis is one of the greatest people I know. She works her ass off (can I cuss in my response?) anyway, she works her ass off every single day. She is a determined, intelligent, bright, caring, charming, beautiful, loyal, professional, and an incredible friend. If I ever needed her, she would be there. No matter what time a day or the circumstance, she would be right there by my side. Without a shadow of a doubt. She’s the type of friend that will rejoice and dance with you when you’re on top of the world and hold your hand when you’re feeling low. She’s never afraid to laugh when life gets hard and will find the joy in almost every situation. Taylor loves fiercely and goes after every single thing in her life with the utmost passion. I admire her everyday and am so proud to call her a friend.”
What’s next for Lovetta in the last months of 2023?
I’ll be playing more shows, writing new songs, releasing new music, and working on a few screenplays!
What is your favorite healthy food?
Sushi. Hands down. I like to tell myself it’s healthy
And your favorite cheat food?
Cheese and crackers. I love a good gouda.
How would you explain your fashion style?
My style is constantly changing. Right now I’m really into the 90’s/early 2000’s look. So maybe casual/chic with a sprinkle of grunge, but make it kinda sexy.
What is your own definition of happiness?
This is a fantastic question. I think happiness comes from within. I think happiness is self love and love for others. The ability to be so grounded, full of love, and secure inside, that the outside things are just small pieces of the puzzle.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Stevie Nicks. She has lived an extraordinary life. A lot of life. I would love to talk to her about her career and her spirituality.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
My dream holiday would be a trip to Scotland with my partner Nick. Enjoying the countryside and visiting castles.
Best advice ever given?
The best advice I was ever given was to enjoy the journey.
Do you support any charity?
I do not currently support any charities, but it’s something I look forward to being able to do in the near future.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
In 5 years I see myself traveling the world and playing music for people of all sorts. I see myself spending months in the studio creating magick, and connecting with people from all over the world. When I’m not making music I’ll be on set acting and making my own movies.
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
I love to belt out “Total Eclipse of the Heart” for karaoke nights.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media has both a dark and a light side. I think sometimes it can take away the artistry and can be less about the art and more about the followers. I do appreciate the fact that it gives us the ability to connect with people all over the world. I think used correctly it is a beautiful tool for unity and connection.
