Hi Kate, please tell us a little about you?
I am a singer from West London, I grew up studying musical theatre and drama, I then went on to study music. I went on my first tour, with a DJ duo called Bondax, performing in-front of thousands of people when I was 18, I went to no.4 in the UK charts when I was 19, I then signed my first record deal and went on to writing and releasing all my own music, and the rest is history!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Confident
Headstrong
Loyal
How did you get started in the business and how has this changed your life?
I started in the industry when I got discovered at my graduation performance at an iconic London venue, Shepherds Bush Empire. I got approached by a manager, who then went on to book me for the Bondax tour as their live singer. We toured all around the world and I met some incredible producers and writers along the way whilst working with them. I started writing all my own music and then got signed by Warner. It changed my life because I was able to live my dream from a very young age.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Bad bitch
Fresh
In your face
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I was influenced by all the divas when I was growing up, mainly Christina Aguilera and Whitney Huston. I would lock myself in my room and make sure the door was shut tight so no one could hear me and I would just sing along to them for hours. I honestly feel like they taught me to sing, because I would just copy their ad libs until I got it right. I choose to make music, because from a very young age it gave me a feeling that I’d never felt before. I’m in my happy place when I’m singing.
Tell us about your new single “Numb”, what’s the story behind it?
I wanted to write about that feeling when you’re coming to the end of a relationship and the love is dying. Obviously when you spend a long time in a relationship, it’s hard to call it quits because that person has become your best friend, but when the love fades, and there’s no hate, the emotion is just numb. You’re neither here nor there with how you feel, you just don’t feel anything at all. I’ve been there, and I know many others have too, so I thought it was a very relatable topic.
What’s next for Kate Stewart in 2022?
I am releasing my EP “You Had To Be There” which I’m very excited about. I would love to go on a tour, be it my own or an amazing support tour, singing live is my absolute favourite thing to do, so that would be the dream.
How would you explain your fashion style?
Androgynes at times
Comfortable at times
Sexy at times
I switch it up a lot!!
What is your own definition of happiness?
I feel happy when I’m around people I love. I know it sounds cheesy but if I’m with the right people, be it my best friends or my family, I can have the best time anywhere and feel so content.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Rihanna. She’s my queen.
Favorite song? Why?
‘Wanna Dance With Somebody’ by Whitney Huston. It just makes me so happy, I can listen to it 100 times and never get bored.
