Though eager to share the fact that LaGuardia High was the launchpad for the likes of Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Aniston, and other celebrated stars, Emmrose isn’t chasing fame. Her passions is to write her poetic and introspective music which is influenced by today’s alternative pop stars like Lorde and Billie Eilish. Though also drawing inspiration from artists such as Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and Elton John, when asked about her current favorite artist she confidently states Radiohead.
In 2016, Emmrose began collaborating with EDM artist, Rebecca ‘Krystalmath’ Rossi, at her Manhattan studio. Together, the two wrote and recorded “Can You Feel It?” which was released in early 2019.
Emmrose’s first EP Hopeless Romantics is due out this summer. She currently records her music at Behind the Curtains studio in Brooklyn with producer Mike Abiuso. She also studies voice with the world-renowned vocal teacher Dr. William Riley and instrumental music with Berklee Assistant Professor, Dominic Sahagun.

I’m a student at NYC’s LaGuardia High School. I’ve been writing pop songs since I was 12, and it’s always been a part of me. At first it was just for fun, and then I started writing songs like “Dangerous Eyes”, and thought wow, this is what I really like to do. It became something that I couldn’t live without. I can take little things that happen in my life and write melodies and poems to show exactly how I was feeling at that moment.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Dreamer, Sensitive and Romantic
When did you first start singing and performing?
I was in children’s theater when I was a kid, but started writing and wanting to perform seriously at age 12.
You’re now 15 years old – do you plan to pursue music as a career?
It depends. I would like to, it’s my passion. I’m currently working as an artist with Secret Road in LA, so let’s see what happens with that opportunity.
Does your family support this decision?
Absolutely, 100%. They want me to go to college, but they definitely want me to continue to pursue music.
What kind of music do you listen to normally?
I don’t listen to pop music. I really like 90’s grunge, alternative rock, anything from the 70’s. I love 80’s synth pop like Tears for Fears, I love Radiohead. I like to listen to classical music like Claude Debussy when I’m doing homework, he was a romantic composer from the late 18 to early 1900’s. I love Chopin, especially his song ‘Nocturne’. My new playlist currently has the Sex Pistols, REM, Oasis, New Order, Pink Floyd, Blondie, Smashing Pumpkins…
Tell us about your new single “Dangerous Eyes”?
This is a song I had worked on for two years. It was about a guy I liked in 8th grade who ignores me now. He still has the look though. He basically said, “Don’t take this personally, but I hate you,” and two days later I wrote this song about him in math class.
You’ve mentioned that you’ll be releasing your debut EP Hopeless Romantics this summer – can you share any further details?
It’s kind of a story. All of the songs are about one person who really rocked my world earlier last fall. It was working through the process of answering the questions of, “does he like me”, “is he just using me”, and “how do I just get this person out of my head?”
What is your next goal as a artist/musician?
A total stranger coming up to me and telling me that they like my music – that is a big goal for me.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Finding people that care about you, and you care about them too. Relationships are what make me happy, not just having a boyfriend, but having friends who really care.
Best advice ever given?
Love yourself before you can love others.
Do you get nervous before a performance?
A little bit. I don’t want to mess up, but I’m mostly excited. I don’t really have bad stage fright, I think everybody gets that.
Any advice for upcoming singers and musicians?
Write. Write as much as you possibly can, and make it personal. Don’t just write about something everybody else can write about, write about something that is real to you.
If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing? Do you have other creative outlets or hobbies that you love?
Shopping. I love fashion. Just putting together outfits, just creating ideas in my head about what I’m going to wear tomorrow is what I love to do. I have quite a shopping addiction.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Thom Yorke. I love that man. I just want to ask him if he’s alright.
How would you explain your fashion style?
It changes everyday. Today I’m wearing a Marilyn Monroe inspired 50’s look, but other days I feel like wearing 90’s goth. There are other days that I try to look very 1970’s, and then other days I want to wear something from a trend happening today. I try to wear a statement. Like I have a pair of boots with angels printed on them and I love getting compliments for wearing them. I really like the UK brand Lazy Oaf, I wear Doc Martins boots and shoes.
