Hi MAR, please tell us a little about you?
My name is Mar. I am a music lover, creative, ambitious, and imaginative woman that cannot be defined, tamed, or put into a box.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Fearless
Grounded
Unique
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I have an incredible guide and mentor who has been in this industry for 45+ years who is my father. He taught me the ropes and led me in the direction of my expansion as a musician at a young age and this is the year I finally decided to step into the industry, officially dropping my first single!
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Enticing
Intoxicating
Dulcet
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
Growing up, I was so passionate and drawn to the classical music that my grandma would play all the time, inspired by my father’s music and in his art, inspired by the movies I would watch such as Fantasia & so much more. I chose to make music because it is what sets my soul on fire, and it is a necessary element to my joy, fruition and realization.
Do you play any instrument?
I play the piano, guitar and ukelele.
Do you ever get nervous?
I get nervous when showing the people I love my creations for the first time because I really value their feedback! But I only feel that way because I absolutely adore what I do.
Tell us about your debut single “QUEDATÉ?”
The idea was born off of the feelings of impulsivity, playfulness, & a bit of nostalgia. The song captures a summery, wavy lil beat that marks such a beautiful, new era for me to take my first steps within the music industry! Love is the basis and foundation for any and all creation.
What’s the story behind the song?
It’s about two hearts that cross each other’s paths, whose eyes speak louder than any word could. It’s an instant connection, and the desire to express that feeling, but often times the guy can feel really intimidated by a woman who knows what she wants.
And about the new single “CALAVERA?”
Calavera is a song for the ladies about empowerment and reclaiming our power. We may fall down but when we get back up, we rise like never before.
Which project is still on your bucket list?
My first album .I really look forward to sharing with the world what I’ve made through quarantine!
Tell us about working with Danny Ocean on his Mexico tour? That’s amazing! Congrats
Thank you so much. Danny ocean is an incredible artist, it was an enormous pleasure and honor for me to open up his show! He’s super easy going, laid back and talented .
What is fun and rewarding about what you do? And what’s not?
It’s rewarding to see all of our hard work behind the scenes paying off. This career is very demanding of our time, energy, patience, persistence, and so much more so it is a beautiful thing to see that nothing is done in vain & our ancestors’ support is always present.
It’s rough having to miss really important celebrations, birthdays, weddings and moments that mean a lot to me & are really hard for me to miss.
Tell us about the feeling of being the daughter of one of the most famous latin singers Marco Antonio Solis, and if you are planning to do something together?
I am so incredibly proud of his impact and fingerprint on this planet. He creates a healing space of liberation for all who attend his concert. We laugh, cry, dance, we remember. I love him with all my heart and words aren’t enough to describe how in awe of him I am.
I would love to do something with him and I’m almost certain that at some point we will.
What’s next for MAR in 2022?
The release of my second single, “Calavera.” This song comes out October 21 and is a very uplifting, empowering song for anybody who’s had their heart tampered with. It is about reclaiming your power.
As a popular artist you are followed by so many people. How do you feel about that pressure of doing always the right thing, and encourage people to follow their dreams?
I am mediately thought of the song “forever“ by Saroc. I just try to be myself, be authentic who I am and my purpose, try to do the right thing hoping it will improve me. Perfection doesn’t exist but to me there’s nothing more valuable to being comfortable in our full, transparent essence and to share love from that space.
How would your best friend describe you?
I think that she would describe me as tender, rooted in intention, creative, caring. and ambitious.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
That’s a hard question. For the chapter that I’m living through right now, I might call it, “Mastering my destiny.”
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
I will tell her to believe in herself, honor her self, and love herself because often times when we’re young we learn that the value of the voices around us are far more important than our own, therefore finding it hard to really find our inner voice and connect with it. To me it would be vital to teach her to trust that all is divine and exactly as it should be.
What is you favorite song? And why?
This is such a hard question, but I would say that Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker, Op. 71: act 2: No. 14 a would be one of my favorites.
This film played such an important role in my connection to music, as I mentioned before classical music has always been so fundamental to my upbringing, to my relationship with the piano, which was probably the first love of my life. I love music without words because I feel that it transports us to a space without presumption or expectations, allowing us to flow in our inner world.
Any loves other than music?
Mother Earth, anything having to do with creating a sensory experience, fashion & animals.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Nikola Tesla. He said that if we want to understand the earth, to think in terms of energy, frequency & vibration. I am so fascinated by him on so many levels. He had so many superstitions that I’m curious about as well.
Best advice ever given?
To be.
How’s a typical day in your life?
Every day is different . But when I succeed at staying within a healthy balanced schedule, I usually wake up, read some affirmations, do some yoga, meditate, work out, cook something, chill in my garden, play the piano or guitar for a while, play some board games, read or watch something and organize my space!
Name one your strengths?
I am super adaptable!
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
Sundays are for the family. A perfect Sunday for me would consist of being outdoors with my people, cooking something together, somehow getting active together in playing volleyball, biking at sunset, or some sort of team sport or family game night!
What is you favorite song to belt out in the car/for karaoke?
Teenage Dirtbag or Después de la Playa at the moment.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Here and now. Happiness is not outside or beyond us! It is simply a shift in thinking and perceiving. A frame of mind!
Do you support any charities?
I support the indigenous foundation, small businesses owned by black and Latino peoples, to foundations that support our fight against climate change and animal rights.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Cucumber and jicama with lemon!
And your favorite cheat food?
Animal fries.
What would be a deal breaker on a first date?
Oooo if they surprise me with some kind of unique activity that sets us out of our comfort zones and challenges us yet brings us peace. Like camping or exploring unknown territories.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself at one of the highest points of my career, thriving and excelling in my craft. A walking collection of poems, melodies, & experiences.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Unique, experimental, comfortable.
What do you think of Social Media?
I think that it’s an incredible resource to connect with talented, incredible entrepreneurs and creatives all over the world. I love seeing how a day in one’s lives varies through different regions of the world. Learning about their cultures, their traditions, music, dances and more.
