Hi Kacey, please tell us a little about you?
I’m a 17 year old singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, California! I’ve been making music since I was 10 and have released 15+ original singles thus far. My music has been streamed over 3 million times across platforms and I reached 350,000 unique listeners in 2021 alone. My debut album, Between the Lines, is set to be released September 30th!
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Creative, empathetic, and thoughtful.
We’re sure you have been asked this million times but how did you get in the industry?
I first got involved in entertainment when I heard an ad for an acting school over the radio! I began training as an actress and moved to Los Angeles. A few years after I started working in acting, I got the amazing opportunity to record and release my first original song, “When I Grow Up.” Since then, I’ve continued to grow as an artist and as a person!
How has this changed your life?
It’s changed my life in so many ways! I’m so incredibly grateful that I’ve gotten the chance to pursue my passion and be able to do what I love for an audience. I’ve been able to meet talented individuals, attend exciting events, and make music that I’m proud of. At the same time, my life has stayed the same in some ways. School is still a priority for me! I’m a senior and I’m involved in a bunch of different extracurriculars at my school.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Relatable, heartfelt, and fun!
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
My very first musical influences were the TV shows I grew up watching: Victorious, Big Time Rush, and iCarly. I’ve always loved singing along with my favorite songs and would write my own lyrics about random occurrences in my life! I always knew that I wanted to release my own music. Nowadays, I’m definitely influenced by the artists I listen to, including Conan Gray, Billie Eilish, Tate Mcrae, Gracie Abrams, and more!
Do you play any instrument?
Yes! I play piano and guitar, but singing is definitely my main focus.
Do you ever get nervous?
Of course! Everyone gets nervous at times and it can be pretty scary to release my thoughts and feelings on the internet in the form of music. But, the risk is worth the reward in my book!
Tell us about your new album “Between The Lines?”
As the name suggests, the album takes a deep look at all of the underlying emotions and thoughts found “between the lines.” It focuses on all things unwritten, subliminal, and secret. The songs are all about complicated relationships with people, whether that be a satirical critique of the nature of fame, a self-reflection, or a heartfelt message to a lost friend. I worked with 7 incredible music producers to create these 12 tracks and I’m so excited for everyone to hear!
What’s the story behind the songs “Toxic,” “Like Us,” and “Palms?”
Toxic is all about cutting off toxic people and essentially saying “you’re just a toxic person, I don’t have to deal with you!” It’s super important to set boundaries for yourself and avoid people who bring you down so Toxic is a bit of a shady way of saying that. Like Us is an uplifting song that focuses on the simultaneous importance of everyone’s unique individuality and unity. This song is a super positive outlook on life by saying that, while no one is perfect, there’s no one that is like us! Palms highlights the feeling of never wanting to leave a vacation and relates that to the relationship you may have with a loved one that makes every day feel like paradise! It emphasizes the importance of staying in your happy place in a fun, tropical song!
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
It’s always so rewarding to hear that people can relate to my music and that my lyrics make them feel heard. My listeners are so important to me!
What book should every entrepreneur read?
I think everyone, entrepreneur or not, should read Fahrenheit 451. It’s an incredible novel that really emphasizes the importance of literature and free thought in society! Dystopian books like that one remind me of why I’m so grateful to live in a world where I’m able to pursue whichever passion I desire.
What would you say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
The importance of perseverance is the biggest lesson for me. Never giving up and powering through even the toughest of times are such valuable lessons that I’m so grateful to have learned.
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
One of the songs on my upcoming album is actually called “Younger Self!” Like I mention in the song, I would want to tell her to live in the moment and not stress because everything will end up okay. 🙂
How would your best friend describe you?
I think my friends would describe me as a thoughtful person who truly cares about my loved ones as well as a creative thinker and problem solver.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
This is a tough question! I think I would call it 5 Lives because I have a lot of crazy stories about so many different aspects of my life and friends often tell me it seems that I’ve lived many lifetimes so far.
When you started your Social Media accounts, did you expected such a success?
Definitely not! I made my first account on Instagram so many years back that I never could have foreseen the platform’s potential to grow. I’m so happy to have people following my life and coming along with me on all my adventures!
As a popular artist you are followed by so many people. How do you feel about that pressure of doing always the right thing, and encourage people to follow their dreams?
To be honest, I don’t really feel that much pressure! I’m just myself on my social media and it’s great that people are following me for me but at the end of the day, the followers don’t matter as much to me as the amazing connections I make on social media.
What’s next for Kacey Fifield in the last months of 2022?
Definitely working on college applications as well as making some more music!
What is your favorite healthy food?
I absolutely love salad! There are so many different varieties that it never gets old.
And your favorite cheat food?
I adore Jolly Llama’s vegan ice cream cones. They’re the most delicious dessert I’ve ever had (and they’re non-dairy :)!
How would you explain your fashion style?
I honestly don’t really have a set style! I just wear whatever I like and that typically ends up following a lot of current and older fashion trends.
What is your own definition of happiness?
I see happiness as spending time with the people I love, pursuing my passions, and making lasting memories.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Lin Manuel Miranda, the composer of my favorite musical, Hamilton! He’s so brilliant that it would be unbelievable to be able to meet and talk to him.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
I’d love to visit Japan! The incredible culture and nature of Tokyo and its surrounding areas seems like such a beautiful experience. I’d love to go with all of my friends!
Best advice ever given?
I think my best advice is always to pursue your passions. Even during the most difficult moments, continuing to follow your dreams is so important!
Do you support any charity?
Yes! Charity is very very important to me. I work with organizations like Farm Sanctuary, the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, and the Raven Corps to advocate for a sustainable food system and an end to factory farming. I’m also the president of my school’s club that works with St. Jude and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to brighten the lives of terminally ill patients. Another cause I’m passionate about is education and, during the COVID-19 lockdown, I cofounded a virtual tutoring organization that helped bridge the gap in learning.
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself near the end of my journey in college, hopefully doing many live performances and releasing a ton of new songs!
Favorite song? Why?
At the moment, it’s Movies by Conan Gray! The song does an incredible job of using ultra specific lyrics to pull at the heartstrings and I can’t get enough of it!!
What do you think of Social Media?
I think social media is a great way to connect with others! But, like on all platforms, it’s important to stay away from toxicity online and not let trolls get to you.
