Hi Rora, please tell us a little about you?
Hi! I’m a pop/r&b singer/songwriter based in LA. I grew up in south Texas & I’ve been singing and playing music my whole life. I’m obsessed with jazz, sunsets, garden roses and sungold kiwis.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Starry eyed, teary eyed, ride or die. that’s seven !
How did you get started in the business?
I don’t know if I ever started ! I’ve been on stage performing for as long as I can remember. I performed in plays, musicals, and skits I wrote. Then I played my first solo acoustic show when I was 14, recorded my first demo at 15 and have been doing it ever since.
How has this changed your life?
I’m happy to admit that music and performing has always been my entire life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Pop, R&B, RORA
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I was raised on classic rock and country/americana like The Beatles, The Carpenters, The Bee Gee’s and Fleetwood Mac. Lately I’ve been largely inspired by live records from Julie London, Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu. I chose to make music when I first saw Judy Garland sing “somewhere over the rainbow” in the wizard of oz movie at my abuela’s house when I was 4 or something. I wanted to be just like her and I honestly still do.
Do you play any instrument?
Yes, I play guitar piano and cello
Do you ever get nervous?
All the time. I’m nervous right now
Tell us your new single “DLM?” (Or if the new single is another one, talk about the new one)
I wrote “DLM” with Billy Lefler and John Clinebell when I moved to LA. They sent over this super fun pop track and it made me wanna twirl my hair and vent about the guy I was seeing. I had just finished an album about breaking my own heart a thousand times and this track sounded like being in love. I was so drawn to it. Then the lyrics just kind of fell into place and onto a voice recording that I sent over a few hours later. We cut the vocals that week at Billy’s studio in midcity and i’ve been itching to drop it since.
What’s the story behind the song?
It’s a love song about how I overthink with my heart and how hard I fall in love when I do
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Honestly, being able to do just that- make music. to make music with talented musicians and producers and create something together is just like magic to me every time.
What book should every entrepreneur read?
oh ! I’m not sure. any book at all will do.
What would say are the greatest lessons you learned so far?
Always be kind, you won’t regret it
What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Don’t be so hard on yourself
How would your best friend describe you?
A cry baby
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
“pls dont cry”
What’s next for Rora Wilde in 2022?
Performing with my new 5 piece band and releasing 3 more songs ! I’m playing with my new band for the first time on May 30th at The Mint.
What is your favorite healthy food?
Lately it’s been fresh cut fruit with lemon in the morning and roasted veggies
And your favorite cheat food?
Thai food, ill literally order the whole menu and blackout
How would you explain your fashion style?
I’m either very casual or extremely and dramatically overdressed.
What is your own definition of happiness?
Happiness is being still.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Amy Winehouse, because I know she had so many more stories to tell
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
Nyc, with all my best girlfriends.
Best advice ever given?
You’re okay, we love you
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
