Describe yourself in 3 words?
Kind, supportive, visionary
How all started?
Recently found a box filled with old videos from when was about 2, making up songs and dancing around, they are hysterical, So I guess music has always been a part of me.
The 1st time performing in public I was 10 it was a huge event in my hometown where everyone comes to officially start Football Season. I was asked to sing the National anthem. My parents were surprised that I could really sing. I was surprised by how many people where there.
When was it that you first realized that you wanted to pursue music as a career?
My parents took me to a concert for my 11th birthday and I was hooked, immediately started guitar and vocal lessons and a year later went to Nashville to perform in a showcase at the Hard Rock Cafe. For the past 4 years I’ve been performing at a local venue where I sing for a few hours, twice a month as well as festivals and opening for tours in the US.
Did your family support this decision?
My family is very supportive. my mom and my Aunt were Professional Dancers, and my Grandpa is a musician who toured with the big bands. They taught me early on about the hard work, and sacrifices that come with being an artist. When I was 14 my parents took me to Radio Disney to audition. It was a dream come true to hear “welcome to the Disney Family.” And like a family, Radio Disney is super supportive of my music.
What is your musical background?
I’m a singer who write songs and plays guitar. I’ve had 4 songs on Radio I’m most proud of “Don’t Say Forever” which made the Top 30 and “Own The Night” that reached #8 and in the Top 30 for 16 weeks.
That really opened some doors for me. Major League Baseball featured Own The Night on their network and I was invited to host the Top 10 show on Radio Disney.
What kind of music do you listen normally?
Fun music like early Gwen Stefani, The 1975, I love Pop, R&B and perform a lot of Rihanna and Beyoncé covers, also love Soulful songs both old and new music by artists such as; Etta James, and H.E.R. Feels so good performing their songs they are real crowd pleasers.
Tell us about your new single “Superficial?”
I was in the studio finishing up Don’t Say Forever for Radio Disney and talking with my co-writers about a relationship gone bad when they said “hop in the booth” and the words just fell out of my mouth. We had fun with the play on words and a fresh twist on a love song. It’s very empowering and has a good stay true to yourself message. I’ve heard from fans around the world about how they can relate to the lyrics and really connect with the song.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh1xDY_TgXQ” title=”SUPERFICIAL – Samantha LaPorta”][vc_column_text]What music influences do you have?
