Describe yourselves in 3 words.
Passionate – sensitive – dreamer
How did you get into the industry?
We get into the industry thanks to UCLA Extension. We started making music with our classmates and recording songs at our teachers’ studios. We started building our network studying there.
How has deciding to pursue music changed your life?
It changed our life in a good way but also in a difficult way. Music gave us a purpose. It was always the best remedy to heal us, make us feel better and give us hope. It is the light at the end of the tunnel. But at the same time, music is not the easiest path. It is a hard industry to get in. Choosing music as a professional career and deciding to move to LA to follow our dreams definitely added some more steps/difficulties to our lives. But nothing worth having comes easy, we have always been ambitious and strong minded and we won’t give up until we make it happen!
Describe your sound in 3 words.
Pop – mixed – motivational
Who are your biggest influences?
We grew up watching Disney Channel. Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato has always been role models to us. Lady Gaga is also one of our biggest influences. They are incredibly talented, and no matter what they have been through they always stayed unapologetically themselves, they kept going. We always felt inspired by their art and stories.
Do you play any instruments?
Yes- we play the guitar, and a little bit of piano.
Do you ever get nervous to perform?
Yes we do get nervous before going on stage, but a little stress is always good to push you to do your best!
Tell us about your single “Step By Step.” What’s the story behind the song?
We met incredible people along the way, but we also met some bad ones… We went through misadventures / bad experiences with several producers – we always try to be as authentic and honest as possible in our songs, writing from our own experiences, etc… This song was our way to let it go, like a free therapy session, saying that no matter what happens and how many people try to take us down or hurt us, we will not give up and keep going and working hard until we make it.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The first one would be, listening to the mix of a new song and being able to hear all the ideas that were once in our head, from our imagination to reality!
The second one is the comments from people who listened to our music, saying how amazing we sound together or how our story inspires them, going after our dreams, etc… It is for those kinds of reactions that we stay strong, they give up hope during hard times. Making music makes us happy and strong, so we really want to make people feel as happy as we are making it!
What book should every aspiring artist read?
“It is all in your head” by RUSS – in the book, the artist tells about all the things he learned from his career and relationships, how it made his dream come true. He inspires the readers to believe in themselves and to go after their dreams. We read it every time we need a little push, it is very motivational for all the aspiring artists.
What is the greatest lesson you learned so far?
To stay true to yourself, trust your gut and don’t back down at the first difficulty. If you feel in your core that you were born for it, that this is what you are on this Planet for, do it. And don’t stop until you make it. In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take…
What advice would you give to your younger selves and why?
Be prepared, it is not going to be easy! But you have the strength, the vision and the will to succeed so don’t doubt yourself.. Be patient and enjoy the ride.
Because it was (and still is) harder that we thought it would be. But we didn’t make all the sacrifices we made for nothing, and we didn’t come this far to only come this far!
What’s next for L Y S in the last months of 2022 and for 2023?
A lot more music to come! We are currently with amazing producers and engineers right now.
What is your favorite food?
Italian! Our grandpa makes the best lasagna ever!
How would you explain your fashion style?
We like to mix different styles as we like to mix different music genres! The perfect combination between the french elegance and the american sexy
What is your definition of happiness?
A happy and healthy family, being surrounded with loyal people who lift you up, a stable life, a steady and successful career, peace of mind.
If you could meet someone living or dead, who would it be and why?
Marine would meet Frida Kahlo: I have always loved her art, she put her soul in her paintings like I aspire to do with my music. Her story really inspires me.
Lorène: The first person that comes to my mind is my grandma. We lost her at a very young age. It always felt like something was missing from her loss. So if I could see someone right now that would be her.
What would be the dream holiday, and who would you go with?
M: I cannot choose between 2 weeks on an island doing nothing but tanning and sipping cocktails, or 2 weeks backpacking across South America – it depends on my mood, I’m good with both options!
L: My dream holiday right now would be a road trip across Italy for a few weeks.
Best advice ever given?
Our grandpa always told us “Be nice to everyone, don’t trust no one”. Be nice because you don’t know everybody’s story and you never know what they are going through. Don’t give your trust easily because this way you can never be disappointed.
Do you support any charities?
Yes, charities for Cancer Research, the Association Gregory Lemarchal, a french charity for the cystic fibrosis, the anti-bullying charities… These are a few of the charities that are important to us!
Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
Hopefully in 5 years, we will make a living with our music – going on tour, selling cute merch and listening to a beautiful community singing our songs back at us!
Favorite song? Why?
Marine – I have many favorite songs, but when I have to choose one, I always give the same answer : The Climb by Miley Cyrus. It is very sentimental, I was only 12 years old when I heard this song for the first time, the lyrics remind me of myself, and I love the melody.
Lorene – Mine is Rollercoaster by the Jonas Brothers. This song is kind of our story too, I can really feel the lyrics. This is also a big song to me because it represents the band’s comeback and all the people who know me know that I am a huge Jonas Brothers fan !
What do you think of Social Media?
Good and bad. Social Medias are an amazing tool to promote our music but we all know it can be bad for self esteem and self acceptance with the overuse of filters. We’ve never been good at it, we are trying our best to be consistent and post as much as we can
