Fusing staccato guitar chords with her soulful, direct vocal, “gone (forever)”’s indie-pop production is stacked with melodic harmonies and playful lyrics. Relatable and empowering, as the chorus kicks in Ananya sings “I got the feeling that I’m getting over you, it arrived tonight right on cue” as she asserts herself as having moved on from a stale relationship.

Hi Ananya, please tell us a little about you?
Hi 🙂 I’m Ananya, a Zimbabwean-born musician based in London. Growing up, the sun was always shining and I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by nature every day. Most of my time was spent with my three siblings; Aya, Bella and Raph. The rest of my time was spent developing my passion for music through my mother’s eclectic music taste, performing, writing, and learning to play piano, guitar, and drums.
After the pandemic, a friend and I co-founded a non-profit organization called The Nani Wellness Project, which focuses on raising awareness and providing help to those struggling with their mental health in Zimbabwe.
Describe your sound in 3 words?
Empowering, emotional, honest
Who influenced you and why did you choose to make music?
I’d often come home after school and run to the computer to watch Taylor Swift on YouTube. She inspired me to start playing the guitar. I couldn’t believe how much I related to her music, and how much it felt like it was part of my life. From a young age, I really valued the way that music could shift my feelings, and how incredible it was that an artist gave people something to connect with and relate to.
Do you play any instruments?
Yes, piano, guitar, and drums.
Do you ever get nervous?
I think nervous should be my middle name, but I’ve been trying to see it as a good thing and call it butterflies.
Tell us about your new single “Gone (Forever)?”
Gone (forever) is the first single from my upcoming EP and was inspired by a vivid dream.
What’s the story behind the song?
This track was inspired by a vivid dream, and I woke up feeling like I related completely to the main character I dreamt about. She empowered me. I think a lot of work goes into approaching breakups with strength, but the biggest contribution is realizing your self-worth. There comes a point where understanding you’re better off and leaving with no hard feelings is the best way to go.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Knowing that my music has helped someone or given them something to relate to. I still can’t believe it when someone knows the words.

What advice would you give to your younger self and why?
Don’t write letters to your teacher excusing you from P.E. and signing off as your mom.
How would your best friend describe you?
I think my best friend would describe me as a crazy dachshund lady who loves candy a little too much.
If you are a book, what would be the title of the book and why?
“How a Girl with a Guitar turned her life into Art” because that’s what songwriters do.
What’s next for Ananya in 2023?
Hopefully graduating from uni and releasing a debut EP!

How would you explain your fashion style?
Expressive and colorful but being comfortable is the most important for me
What is your own definition of happiness?
Sunshine, health, following your passion, and being with those you love

Trent Alexander Arnold, I think it’s obvious…
What would be your dream holiday, and who would you go with?
Japan is on my bucket list and I’d definitely go with my siblings.

Where do you see yourself and your career in 5 years from now?
I see myself doing what makes me happy hopefully, but I try my best to live in the present and focus on what I can do today to make tomorrow better.

What do you think of Social Media?
It’s a love-hate relationship but we’re in a good place at the moment. I’ve laid out the pros and cons list and I think there are way more pros if you use it carefully.
