Hi Jamee please tell us a little about yourself?
I am the Founder and Executive Producer of Blueyed Pictures, an award-winning commercial production company. In addition, I recently finished writing a children’s book series, “I Am Sam” chronicling travels with my son.
How did you get in the industry?
When I was 17, I moved to Los Angeles, from Chicago. Initially I wanted to be an actress then realized my true passion lied behind the camera. In the beginning, I worked with a variety of commercial production companies. I also worked at Warner Brothers and Touchstone pictures. In 1995, Benicio del Toro asked if I could help produce his directorial debut short film.
Tell us a little about your company Blueyed Pictures?
Blueyed Pictures is a global production company with headquarters in Los Angeles, and offices in London and Tokyo. I have a team of seasoned experts that work with me to produce award-winning content for leading advertising agencies, PR firms and major companies such as Virgin Enterprises, Toyota, Pepsi, and Pioneer Electronics.
How did you get started in the business?
My foundation derived from the solid work I provided the major studio heads. I was able to develop and maintain strong relationships and become known for ‘flawless production. I spent almost a decade partnering with BBDO West to produce commercials for brands both domestically and internationally. Ultimately, I branched out to create a global production network, where I could serve both advertising agencies and clients. It’s quite an exciting time for us. Blueyed Pictures has grown immensely since our inception, as we are currently trailblazing with independent and feature films.
Where did you work before Blueyed Pictures?
Warner Brothers, Touchstone Pictures, Alpine Pictures GMS, as well as for Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel who are the founders of MJZ.
What is the key to your success?
Every day, I try to create learning experiences to make my team better. To produce beyond quality productions for our clients requires that I constantly evolve as a producer. This means I may have to work extremely long hours, multi-task, and make an old fashioned To-Do list to consistently achieve results.
What part of your job do you find the most challenging?
For me, executing our clients’ visions on set in a non-traditional way takes an incredible amount of ingenuity and resources. We have to stay ahead of all forms of digital formats, which are evolving all the time—then think beyond so that our message can stay relevant and innovative.
How do you bring new clients into your organization?
We have all kinds of effective introductions to Blueyed Pictures. We focus on regional marketing throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. I have dear friends who are Fortune 500 executives, and word of mouth is our best friend!
Are there busy and quiet periods during the year?
Since we have so much versatility as producers of commercials, corporate videos, live events, and feature films, there is never any down time—it’s more like shifting priorities. Creatively, we never shut down. It’s 24/7 all year long, and I love it!
Best advice ever given?
My dear friend, Richard Branson said, “You have to be passionate about what you do”.
What’s your favorite quote?
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you”.
Who has made the biggest impact on your life so far, and why?
My mother, Anne. All I ever knew growing up was my mother’s amazing work ethic. She taught me how to be a hard worker, and the importance of diversification. Most importantly, and perhaps her greatest gift she gave me in how I live my own life: is to honor integrity.
Name one of your strengths?
The word ‘problem’ is not in my vocabulary. I am solution based. I never give up!
How do you spend your spare time?
I love to travel and spend time with my son.
Do you have a role model?
A few are Sheryl Sandberg, Hillary Clinton, and Melinda Gates. These women are dynamic and empowering.
Any advice to women out there?
Believe in yourself. Your circumstances don’t define you, your actions do.
Any future plans?
Publishing my 7-year-old son’s travel series. “I Am Sam” and the premiere of my film, “A Christmas Eve Miracle” is just around the corner. I am also excited about a slew of major film projects in development.
What is your idea of a perfect Sunday?
Doing nothing.
Do you support any charities?
I support a few, the Clinton Foundation, Virgin Unite, Human Rights and JDRF (Juvenile diabetes)
