[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”24102″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Our interview with Hawaiian sensation and singer/songwriter Kimie Miner who shares with us her new single Bamboo, her upcoming album and her business Haku Collective.
Singer-songwriter Kimié (pronounced Kim-mi-Yay) Miner manages to create an inimitable musical style that dresses the listener in a flowing mu’umu’u on a cool beach, easily mistaken for paradise. Growing up on an island surrounded by the ocean was a formative experience for Kimié, and an experience that can be distinctly heard through her work. Her melodies embody a loose, down-to-earth feel, and her lyrics create a universal imagery that transcends ethnicity, gender, age, and musical genre.
Her new single “Bamboo” draws inspiration from her experience with love and creating healthy relationships. After participating in the first Creative Lab Hawai’i Immersive Music Program she had the opportunity to work in Los Angeles with music supervisors and songwriters. During a co-write with Jesse Epstein and Isaac Moreno she shared her hook idea of ‘bam bam boo’ and a song was born.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”24103″ img_size=”large”][vc_column_text]Hi Kimie, please tell us a little about yourself?
Iʻm of Hawaiian and Portuguese decent born in Hawaiʻi. Music is an integral part of our culture here. Our history was passed down orally through chants and dances. My music is inspired by my roots here in Hawaiʻi and also by my wings, or the travels Iʻve had through the world.

Passionate, caring, and Hawaiian.
How did you get started in music and when did you know it was something you wanted to pursue professionally?
Music is a big part of my culture so music has always been a part of life from my earliest memories. I always thought Iʻd be an actress and singer since I was little but I think I knew for sure after my first experience on stage opening for reggae singer Barrington Levy when I was 19.
Is your family musical?
They love music. I grew up singing karaoke with them.
What kind of music do you listen normally?
I kind of have music ADD so my playlist jumps all over the place from Khalid, Sza, James Arthur, Kendrick Lamar, Hiatus Kaiyote & JohnnySwim.
Tell us about your latest single “Bamboo”?

What is your next goal as a musician?
Helping young aspiring artists here in Hawaiʻi navigate the music business. I started a mentorship program through my new company Haku Collective that brings artists, producers, and music creators together to learn about song crafting for different opportunities in music like film and television.
What are the five things you can’t live without?
Good food, a good playlist, good speakers, good friends, and a nice bottle of wine!
Any loves other than music?
Cooking, traveling, eating delicious food, being in the ocean.
Best advice ever given?
Find time to do what makes you happy, even if itʻs not your job.
Do you get nervous before performing?
Not as much but sometimes
Any advice for upcoming singers?
Get a good team that believes in your dream to help you because you canʻt do it all by yourself.
If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?
Probably something that involves traveling like a flight attendant, or something that involves food like a food blogger. Or a private child care provider!
Idea of a perfect Sunday?
Hanging with friends and family at the beach with good food and surfing.
How important is Social Media for you?
Itʻs very important. Itʻs how we connect with the world today. It allows me to reach a much broader audience and to share in the stories that inspire me.
