Remember Me is a poignant look into the life and rise of Gospel Singer Mahalia Jackson (Ledisi). Set in New Orleans, Louisiana, this provocative story explores the tumultuous relationship Mahalia shared with her mother’s sister “Aunt Duke” (Janet Hubert) legally named “Mahala” who was Mahalia’s namesake, after her mother Charity unexpectedly passes away.
The biopic was directed by Denise Dowe and written/ executive produced by Ericka Nicole Malone. The story shows the authentic version of what Mahalia Jackson went through before and after her success. See synopsis below.
The Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story cast includes Grammy Award winner Ledisi as Mahalia Jackson, Columbus Short as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Wendy Raquel Robinson as Cylestine, Vanessa A. Williams as Lucille, Keith David as Ink Williams, Corbin Bleu as Cab Calloway, and Keith Robinson as Thomas Dorsey.
The film is now streaming exclusively on Hulu. We have high hopes of Ms. Malone securing an interview w/ Minority Communicator to discuss the the success of this film, its mark on American history, and the business of filmmaking. Ms. Malone is a seasoned storyteller and represents all things diversity and adversity as a female filmmaker fighting for her footing in Hollywood.
