Hi Sophie please tell us about you?
I’m 16 years old and grew up in Vancouver, Washington but live in Los Angeles currently. I have been a dancer since I was 3 years old and am now an actress, and I truly love it with all my heart. Music, popcorn, and a good card game are definitely the way to my heart.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Determined, hard-working and independent.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My parents are absolutely my biggest supporters! They are the reason I get to do what I love and they have always supported me in reaching my goals. I couldn’t do anything without them.
So how did it all begin?
I guess it really all began when I was 3 and my mom put me into my very first dance class. It was the first thing I tried that I completely fell in love with. I absolutely loved performing on stage and I trained hard to be the best I could be for a very long time. About 2 years ago I decided I would also give acting a try. I was living in Vancouver, Washington at the time and commuting back and forth to LA for auditions here and there and my mom and I decided we would stay in LA for a summer. I got into an acting class here and fell completely in love with acting. After just a few months in LA, I got my first audition for Disney and it was for the part of Ashley in Gamer’s Guide. After 5 Gamer’s Guide auditions over several weeks, I found out I booked it and it has truly changed my life.
What was your first acting role?
My first acting role was actually a short film called 9 that I did back in Portland, Oregon. I had a few lines and I got to dance in it. It was a great experience and was my very first taste of what being on a set was like so that was definitely cool.
What does it mean to you to be able to join the Disney family?
Joining the Disney family was definitely a life-changing thing for me. I grew up watching Disney, so being on it now is completely surreal. Being a part of Disney makes you feel like you are a part of something bigger with so much history, and that’s a really cool feeling.
What has it been like to be part of “Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything” cast?
Being a part of the Gamer’s Guide cast has been an incredible experience! I honestly have loved every second of it. The entire cast and crew are amazing and we have a ton of fun. And on top of that I get to do what I love every day! It’s been such an honor to be a part of it.
Tell us about your character Ashley?
Ashley is this really fun, sweet girl with a big personality. She is an incredible video gamer and a really loyal friend. Ashley definitely has this feisty spirit and I really love that about her. She never backs down from a challenge and isn’t afraid to stand up for herself and her friends.
Do you and your character Ashley have something in common?
Ashley and I are both really independent and strong girls. She loves to roll with the boys. Her three best friends are guys and most of my closest friends are guys, so I really relate to that too!
Do you consider yourself a gamer?
No I would definitely not consider myself a gamer! I’m having fun learning about the whole gaming world, and I definitely play occasionally, but I wouldn’t consider myself a gamer.
How is working with Cameron Boyce?
Cameron and the entire cast are great! Cameron has so much experience so it was great getting to learn from him. I get along so well with Cameron, Felix, and Murray and we just have a ton of fun on set. They’re all amazing and push me to be better actress and person.
How has your life changed after the TV Show?
The show has definitely changed my life. Gamer’s Guide showed me that acting is what I want to do. It was the first big job I booked and doing it has been the best experience of my life. It really showed me that acting is what I’m meant to be doing.
If you could act with anyone as your co-star, who would it be and why?
There are so many people I would love to work with and learn from someday so it’s so hard to pick just one. I love to work with people who are nice to be around and great at what they do.
Who is your favorite Actor/Actress?
This is so hard for me to choose! I can’t choose just one, but I really admire the work of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Amy Poehler, just to name a few!
Do you have any plans to pursue your dance in addition to acting?
Right now I’m more focused on acting, but I will always love to dance and would definitely like to continue to use that in my career in the future. I love when the two worlds come together, so I hope that there will be lot’s more dancing in my future.
What’s a normal day in your life?
Every day is so different for me right now, so it’s hard to say what my normal day is, but I would say a normal day when I’m not working consists of yoga, school, dance, and if I’m lucky, a little time with my friends.
What do you like to watch on tv?
My current obsession is the show Sherlock! I absolutely love it.
3 things you can’t leave your house without?
Lipstick, my phone, and gum!
Who are some of your favorite models and designers, and why?
I don’t really have any specific favorite designers. My style is always changing and I look to so many different people for inspiration. For me, style is about what I feel best in, and that is constantly changing, it’s more fun that way.
Something fans don’t know about you?
Fans might not know that I was actually born in Iowa! I only lived there for two years before moving to Washington so I don’t really remember living there, but I was born there.
What music we can find in your iPod?
A big mix of stuff but right now a lot of Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, and Selena Gomez.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Acting for sure. I want to try all different kinds of roles in film and TV so I’m really excited to see where the future takes me.
Any advice for upcoming actors?
My advice would be to find a really good acting class and work really hard. I think class is a fantastic way to expand your skills. Work hard and don’t give up because you can do it.
What is your favorite healthy food?
I love apples actually! I have one almost every night.
And your favorite cheat food?
Probably popcorn or brownies. If only they were healthy for you!
Your idea of a perfect Sunday is?
Sleeping in, going to yoga, and hanging with friends is my kind of Sunday.
How important is Social Media for you?
Social Media is so important for me because it allows me to connect with my fans! I love getting to share my life with them and getting to see their lives. I think sometimes we tend to place too much importance on social media, but when used right it can be an amazing tool to connect with people.
