After a long day of work, we all want to relax and have a good meal. Nothing can brighten your day like being served a well-cooked and heavenly-smelling dish while you listen to some good music. There’s no denying that the old-fashioned dine-in experience is delightful.
However, you can get used to it pretty fast and yearn for something different. These restaurants have come up with innovative ideas to take your dining experience to the next level.
1. Attica
Attica is renowned, not only in Melbourne but all around the world. The restaurant was named one of the best 50 restaurants in the world in 2010. It is known for offering the best when it comes to Aboriginal food. Every meal is made by bush tucker, which is what native Australian ingredients, like kangaroo and emu meat, are commonly called. Expect to have a wide range of delicacies that you will not find on any menu elsewhere. The Chef and owner, Ben Shewry, takes pride in providing everything Australia has to offer, from native fruits to meats and herbs.
2. Colonial Tramcar Restaurant
Another restaurant that operates in Melbourne, the Colonial Tramcar Restaurant, offers a unique experience inside a tram adorned with vintage decor. You’re guaranteed to have a good time on the dinner tram in Melbourne, where you can sightsee the city. They offer from 3-5 courses, depending on whether you’re having lunch, early dinner, or dinner. If you love to go to places that will take you back in time, that’s the perfect restaurant for you. Just remember to go on time because they usually have a long waiting list.
3. Stranger Danger Dinners
Located in Perth, this restaurant came up with an original and unusual idea. If you manage to book a table there, you will get to have dinner with seven total strangers. Yes, you heard it right, seven total strangers. There will be strangers dining together in Perth, and they do their research to make sure that you don’t know one another. If you want to spend your evening with strangers, you have to find their page first, which is not named after the restaurant. Besides the delicious food, Stranger Danger Dinners offers you a great chance to meet new people in an unconventional way.
4. Spirits of the Red Sand
Our personal favorite on the list is Spirits of the Red Sand. It’s not just a restaurant but a whole cultural experience. You get to meet Aboriginal elders and learn about their culture, eat their food, and listen to their stories. Then, at night, they offer an award-winning dinner accompanied by a unique theatre experience that teleports you to the 1800s’ Australia where the British and the Aboriginal didn’t get along very well. And of course, you will get a taste of authentic bush tucker food.
We believe these restaurants have earned credit for changing the game when it comes to dining out. No matter where you are in Australia, you will find a place that stands out among the crowd. It could be because of its diverse menu like Attica, or it could be offering a distinctive atmospheric experience like Tramcar and Spirits of the Sands. In any case, we advise you to try them out and see for yourself.
